Perfect Sunday for Gator Softball

Danielle Chapman Sparked the Gators' Offense with Three Hits and Three RBIs in Their Two Wins
 Turlock, Calif.--- SF State's softball team went a perfect 3-0 this afternoon including 2-0 in the final day of the Mizuno Best of the West Invitational.  The Gators started the day with a 7-6 extra-inning win over Grand Canyon.  They then defeated Notre Dame de Namur in their final game of the tournament.  They finished the day with a 6-0 win over Montana State-Billings.
          In SF State's first game of the day, Grand Canyon took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning capped by a two-out two-run double to right center by Erika Reay. The Antelopes (3-1) increased their lead to 5-1 with a solo run in the third innings. SF State battled back with two runs in the fourth and tied the game in the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Lea Cardenas (Sanger, California, Sanger)
            The game remained tied at 5-5 until the top of the eighth inning when Nicole Lorenzi scored on a fielder's choice after being placed on second to open up the inning due to softball's extra-inning rule. 
            SF State came back in its half of the eighth inning to tie the game on a RBI single by Alyssa Esquibel (San Jose, California, Archbishop Mitty)which scored Lea Cardenas with one out. The Gators won the game two batters later with two outs when Danielle Chapman (San Jose, California, San Jose City College) drove home Esquibel with the game-winning run.

            In the Gators' second game of the day, once again their opponents took the lead when the Argonauts (2-2-1) scored in the third inning on a RBI single by Cassie Avila. The game remained 1-0 Notre Dame de Namur until SF State's half of the sixth inning. 
            Chapman tied the game for SF State with a two-out RBI single which scored Jessica Delgado (North Monterey). SF State took the lead when Chapman scored on a fielding error off the bat of Monica Amburgey (Monterey, California, Monterey) The Gators added an insurance run on a RBI single by Kelsey Wood that scored Amburgey.
            Carolyn Knudson (Napa, California, Vintage) (1-1) picked up the complete game win, giving up one run and six hits while striking out five and walking one. Chapman, Kelsey Wood, and Delgado each had two hits apiece to lead the Gators' hitting attack while Avila had three hits for Notre Dame de Namur.
            SF State blanked Montana State-Billings 6-0 in its final game of the day behind the one-hitter of Ashley Jackson (Vallejo, California, St. Patrick's-St. Vincent). Stats of this game were unavailable at the time of this release.  The Gators will open up conference action with a four-game series this weekend in La Jolla with UC San Diego.
