Kendra Wood and Ashley Jackson Each Record Complete Game Shutout Victories in Gators Sweep of Urban Knights

Kendra Wood Pitched Her First Complete Game of the Season While Hitting her Third Home Run of the Year
San Francisco, Calif.--- SF State's softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from the visiting Urban Knights of Academy of Art (6-18) this afternoon 2-0 and 5-0 to improve its record to 9-10. The Gators have won five of their last six games and will return to the diamond this weekend for a four-game conference series in San Bernardino against Cal State San Bernardino beginning this Friday at 1pm.
            Ashley Jackson (Vallejo, California, St. Patrick's-St. Vincent)threw a five-hit complete game shutout to improve to 5-3 in game one. She struck out five and walked none en route to her third complete game shutout of the season. Karolyn Gubbine (Richmond, California, Pinole Valley)'s one-out single up the middle scored Kelly McDonald (Gilroy, California, Live Oak)with the only run that Jackson needed in the bottom of the third inning. The Gators added an insurance run in the fifth when Alyssa Esquibel (San Jose, California, Archbishop Mitty) scored on a double steal attempt by the Gators.

            SF State had six hits in the game with Gubbine leading the way going 2 for 3 while Carissa Perales led the way for Academy of Art with two hits. Sierrah Garcia (4-9) took the loss for the Urban Knights, pitching six innings, giving up six hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out five and walking one.
            In the night cap, Kendra Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook)(1-3) pitched a three-hit complete game shutout in picking up her first victory of the season. She struck out six batters while walking just two. 
            The Gators struck first in their half of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. They added two more in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Kendra Wood, her third of the season. SF State added an insurance run in the sixth on a RBI single by Arianna Welch (Tracy, California, West) to increase the Gators' lead to 5-0. 
            SF State had nine hits in game two, two each by Jessica Delgado (Monterey, California, North Monterey), Kendra Wood, and Kelsey Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook)
            Ericka Ames (2-9) took the loss for Academy of Art, pitching three innings, giving up six hits and four runs while striking out one. Alana Aweau was 2 for 2 for the Urban Knights.
