SAN FRANCISCO---- SF State men's basketball team's rally from a 11-point deficit with 6:22 left fell short as the Gators lost 62-61 to the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks (8-3, 5-1 CCAA) this evening in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) game at SF State's Main Gymnasium. Three Gators scored in double digits led by
Marquel Hoskins (Beloit, Wisconsin, Reedley College) and
Nefi Perdomo (Oakland, California, Skyline )each with 17 points while
Tim Pratt chipped in 12.
“I liked our mettle in making a good run down the stretch,” said SF State Head Coach Bill Treseler. “Humboldt State is an NCAA-caliber team and this gives us an idea of where we are right now,” added Treseler. “

The first half saw the lead change seven times with Humboldt State taking a 30-29 lead into the locker room. SF State (10-3, 3-2 CCAA) held the Lumberjacks to just 38% shooting in the first half including just 18% from three-point territory.
The first four minutes of the second half saw four more lead changes and two ties with the final one coming on a Perdomo lay-up for the Gators to tie the game at 36-36. Humboldt State outscored its hosts 10-4 in the next four minutes to take a 46-40 lead on a made free throw by Keith Davis.
SF State came back and went on a 8-1 run to cut the Lumberjack lead to 48-47 on a Hoskins' lay-up at the 10:36 mark. Humboldt State built its biggest lead of the game when Brian Morris capped a 10-0 run by the visitors to give them a 58-47 lead with just 6:22 to go in the game.
The Gators would not go away as they took a 61-60 lead with 29 seconds to go in the game as
Tim Pratt's lay-up capped a 14-2 run by SF State. Zac Tiedeman, who finished with a team-high 12 points, made two free throws to give Humboldt State a 62-61 lead with 17 seconds to go.
SF State's final shot fell short as the Lumberjacks held on for a 62-61 victory over the Gators.
The Gators held Humboldt State to just 38% shooting from the field including 20% from three-point territory, but the Lumberjacks shot 87.5% from the charity stripe connecting on 21 of 24 of their attempts. The visitors also out-rebounded the Gators 30-23 led by Brian Morris' game high 7 rebounds. Kevin Atkins added 11 points while Morris had 10 off the bench for Humboldt State.
Perdomo's 17 points tied for a season high as he was 6 of 7 from the field including 2 of 3 from three-point land and a perfect 3 of 3 from the charity stripe. Pratt's 12 points also was a season high for him. Hoskins finished the night 5 of 10 from the field including 3 of 4 from three-point territory while going 4 of 5 from the charity stripe. The Gators shot 52.5% from the field including 42.9% from three-point land.
SF State will now commence a four-game road trip this Friday, January 8
th in Carson, California, as the Gators take on Cal State Dominguez Hills in a scheduled 7:30pm conference game.
