Jackson and Truan Pitch Gators To Doubleheader Sweep of Cal State East Bay

Vanessa Truan Pitched a Three-Hit Complete Game Shutout This Afternoon for the Gators
HAYWARD--- Behind the pitching duo of Ashley Jackson (Vallejo, California, St. Patrick's-St. Vincent)and Vanessa Truan (San Jose, California, Leland), the SF State Gators' softball team swept the Cal State East Bay Pioneers in a CCAA doubleheader at Pioneer Field in Hayward. Jackson and Truan combined for 14 strikeouts while giving up just eight hits in 12 innings. With the sweep, the Gators improve to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA.
 
Jessica Delgado (Monterey, California, Cal State Monterey Bay) three-run home run in the second inning of game one gave the Gators a 3-0 lead. They added an insurance run in the fifth, when Danielle Mestas (Los Angeles, California, Venice ) drove in Kelly McDonald (Gilroy, California, Live Oak) That is all the runs that Jackson (2-0) needed as she pitched six innings of five-hit ball while striking out nine and walking one. She also gave up two runs in the sixth inning on RBI doubles by Sara Holdridge and Sarah Davini.

Kendra Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook)came on and pitched a scoreless seventh for the Gators, striking out two and walking one while giving up just one hit. Catherine Schorn (1-1) took the loss for Cal State East Bay (1-3, 1-3 CCAA). Mestas finished game one with two hits while four different Gators score. 
 
Game two remained scoreless until the Gator top of the fourth when Lea Cardenas (Sanger, California, Sanger)hit her second home run of the season and 19th for her career to give SF State a 1-0 lead. They broke the door open with a seven-run sixth inning with Heather Jensen's two-out three-run home run being the big hit of the inning. 
 
Vanessa Truan (1-0) gave up just three hits in six innings while striking out five and walking five for the victory. Lauren Zweigle (0-2) recorded the loss for the Pioneers.  Alyssa Esquibel (San Jose, California, Archbishop Mitty) led the Gators' hitting attack with three hits while Cardenas had one hit.
 
SF State will have its home opener this Tuesday, February 16th, when Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts come to San Francisco for a 1pm starting doubleheader.
