TURLOCK, Calif.--- Freshman pitcher
Marisa Ibarra (Hollister, California, San Benito ) pitched a four-hit complete game shutout in the Gators' 1-0 win over the Chaminade Silverswords in SF State's final game of bracket play at the Tournament of Champions, presented by Mizuno in Turlock. Ibarra struck out 7 and walked two while giving up four hits. SF State lost its other game of the day, 4-0 to Dixie State (19-9).
Lea Cardenas (Sanger, California, Sanger)drove in the lone run of the game with a two-out single through the right side that scored
Kylie Herrada (Gilroy, California, Gilroy), who reached base on a hit batsman and stole second.
The Silverswords (14-23) loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but Ibarra (5-4) pitched out of it getting the second out on a ground out and the last batter out on a strikeout. Kasy'e Lalau (6-7) recorded the loss for Chaminade.
Rachael Kroneder (Pleasanton, California, Amador Valley) went 2-for-3 for the Gators and K. Berinobis went 2-for-3 for Chaminade.
In SF State's first game of the day, Dixie State scored all the runs the Red Storm needed with a three-run first inning. Brittnie Whipple (9-4) picked up the win for Dixie State, pitching 7 innings of three-hit ball, striking out six and walking two. Ashley McFarland drove in two of the Red Storm's four runs with a two-run double in the first.
Vanessa Truan (San Jose, California, Leland) (2-4) recorded the loss for SF State while
Ashley Jackson (Vallejo, California, St. Patrick's-St. Vincent)pitched 6.1 innings of relief, giving up one run and one hit while striking out five and walking two.
