Second Half Surge Keys SFU's Victory Over Gators

Box Score  ROHNERT PARK---  The Simon Fraser Clan (2-1) outscored the SF State Gators 51-30 shooting 68% from the field including 69% from three-point land to key their 81-69 victory.  All-Tournament selection, Javari Williams, led six players in double digits for the Clan with 21 points and four blocked shots.
 
“We need to get back to the fundamentals starting this Monday,” said SF State Head Coach Paul Trevor.  “We were very inconsistent this evening and lacked leadership.”
 
The Gators (1-2) jumped out to a 20-11 on a three by Casey James in the first 8 minutes of the first stanza.  They increased their lead to 32-18 on a lay-up by James Albright with 6:46 to go in the half. 
 
Simon Fraser cut that lead to 36-27 on a three-point play by Williams in the next three minutes, but the Gators finished the half outscoring the Clan 4-3 to take a 40-30 lead into the locker room.
 
The Clan started the second half on a 13-3 run to tie the game at 43-43 on a Connor Lewis' three-pointer five minutes into the new stanza.  
 
James then capped a 7-0 run by the Gators (1-3) on a three-pointer to give SF State a 50-43 lead with 13:16 to go in regulation.
 
In the next nine minutes, the Clan outscored the Gators 24-17 to tie the game with 4:44 to as Ibrahim Appiah went one of two from the charity stripe.  Williams' then made a lay-up on their next possession to give the Clan their first lead of the game, 69-67, with 3:53 left in the game.
 
Simon Fraser finished the game on a 12-2 run to take the 81-69 non-conference victory in Day Two of the 11th Annual Ron Logsdon Classic in Rohnert Park.
 
The Clan finished the game shooting 47% from the field and 46% from three-point land while connecting on 27 of their 37 attempts from the charity stripe.
 
Griffin Reilly, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led the Gators with 21 points, going 7 of 16 from the field including 5 of 11 from three-point land and two-of-two from the line.  Albright finished with 17 points for SF State, who will have its home opener this Wed., Nov. 23 at 5pm, when the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos come to the Swamp.  This will also be both teams' conference opener of the 2011-12 season.
