SAN FRANCISCO--- The visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros (11-5, 7-5 CCAA) swept this afternoon's doubleheader from the SF State Gators, 3-1 and 7-3 to take the four-game series from the Gators. With the losses, the Gators fall to 3-14 overall and 1-11 in the CCAA.
In game one, SF State scored first as
Summer Powell's one-out double down the left field line drove in
Kelsey Murakami in the bottom of the first inning.
The score remained, 1-0, Gators until the Toro fifth. Emiley McEwen hit a two-out home run to left field to tie the game at 1-1. Cassandra Snodgrass and Brittany Brenner each walked and then Veronica Vazquez drove in Snodgrass with the go-ahead run on a single up the middle to give the Toros (10-5, 6-5 CCAA) a 2-1 lead.
Cal State Dominguez Hills added an insurance run in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead.
The Gators had a chance to tie the game in their half of the sixth, but Jimenez stranded the tying run on second base with just one out as she got the next two Gator batters out on a ground out and pop out.
Jimenez gave up just one hit in the Gator seventh to preserve her second save of the season.
Harper (3-3) picked up the win, pitching five innings, giving up three hits and one unearned run while striking out three. Jimenez pitched two innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.
Krissy Sylvis had two of the Toros' six hits.
Powell finished the day 2-for-2 for the Gators (3-13, 1-10 CCAA).
Ashley Jackson piocked up the loss, pitching 7 innings, giving up six hits and three runs, walking five, and striking out four.
In the night cap, the Toros took a 5-0 in the top of the third and never looked back. In that third inning, Brittney Brenner hit a two-out two-run home run to cap the scoring for the Toros.
SF State came back with two runs in its half of the third on a two-run two-out single by Powell that drove in
Kelly McDonald and
Kelsey Wood. The Gators added another run in the sixth on a two-out RBI single by
Lea Cardenas that drove in
Heather Jensen.
Cal State Dominguez Hills added two insurance runs in the seventh on a two-run double by Melissa Pacheco to give the Toros a 7-3 victory.
McEwen and Pacehco each had three hits for the Toros. Jimenez (7-2) picked up the win, pitching 7 innings, giving up four hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out five and walking two.
Powell finished game two, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs while
Jordan Stanaland (2-1) picked up the loss for SF State.
The Gators will return to the diamond this weekend for a four-game conference series in Chico, Calif., beginning with a doubleheader this Friday, March 4th at noon.
