Chico State Sweeps Gators in Two One-Run Ballgames

Ashley Jackson Struck Out 9 in the Gators' DH at Chico This Afternoon
CHICO, Calif.---  SF State's softball team was swept by the Chico State Wildcats (9-2, 6-0 CCAA) this afternoon in a pair of one-run ball games, losing 1-0 in game one and 2-1 in nine innings in the night cap.  Ashley Jackson suffered both losses as she pitched 9.2 innings, giving up just 3 runs, striking out 9. 

In game one, the game remained scoreless until the Wildcat sixth when Brit Wright doubled to lead off the inning and later scored on a fielder's choice by Jackie Munoz. 

The Gators had a chance to tie the game, but left the tying runner on second with just one out as Sam Baker (7-0) struck out the last two batters.  Baker pitched a complete game three-hit shutout, striking out 8 and walking one.  Jackson (1-9) pitched 6 innings for the Gators, striking out 5 and walking one, while giving up four hits and one run.

Lea Cardenas had two of the Gators' three hits. 

In the night cap, Marissa Ibarra started the game for SF State (3-16, 1-13 CCAA) pitching 5 innings of two-hit ball, striking out one and walking one.  Jackson (1-9) came on in relief, pitching 3.2 innings, giving up five hits and two runs while striking out four.

The Gators took a 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth as Jenna Robertson opened up the inning with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Deana Querubin

In the Wildcat half of the ninth, Haley Stockman had a lead-off double and scored on a single by Rachel Fallia.  Then with one out, Tylor Hanamaikai drove in Munoz with the winning run on a sacrifice fly.

Robertson was 3-for-4 for the Gators and Kelly McDonald was 2-for-3.

Jessica McDermott (2-0) pitched nine innings, giving up one run and seven hits while striking out 9 and walking four.

The two teams will conclude their four-game series tomorrow with another doubleheader starting at noon.
