Softball Falls 9-3 to MSUB

Kelsey Wood Had Three Hits, Which Was Her 6th Multiple-Hit Game of the Season

TURLOCK, Calif.---  SF State Gators lost 9-3 to the Montana State Billings in the first game of the Silver Championship Bracket at the Tournament of Champions, Mizuno in Turlock this afternoon.  The Gators end their weekend 3-3. 

The Yellowjackets opened up the game with a four-run first inning scoring all their runs on just two hits.  The scoring was capped by a two-out run scoring double by Nicole Colprin.  Kaycee Hoffman added an insurance run for Montana State-BIllings on a solo home run in the third.

SF State got on the board with a three-run sith inning.  Kelly McDonald led off the inning getting hit by a pitch.  She advanced to second on a single by Alyssa Esquibel.  With one out, Kelsey Wood drove in McDonald with the Gators' first run of the game.  Kendra Wood then singled home Esquibel for the second run of the ining.  Still with one out, Rachael Kroneder drove in Kelsey Wood to cut into the Yellow Jacket lead, 5-3.

Hoffman hit a grand slam home for the victors to increase Montana State-Billings to 9-3 in the top of the seventh.  She finished the game 2-for-4 with 5 RBIs. 

Ashley Jackson fell to 6-17 as she recorded the loss for SF State (11-25).

Kelsey Wood and Heather Jensen each had three hits for the Gators, who will return to the diamond this Thursday at 3pm for a non-conference doubleheader at Notre Dame de Namur.
