Box Score

The University of San Francisco Dons connected on 12 of their 27 attempts from three-point land to key their 93-77 exhibition win over cross-town foe SF State Gators this evening at War Memorial Gymnasium on the Hilltop.  Nefi Perdomo paced the Gators with a team high 20 points while Robbie Herndon chipped in 19 points.

“It was good to compete against other competition, but I did not like how we started this evening,” said SF State head coach Paul Trevor.  “We dug ourselves too big of hole in the first half.”

USF took a 25-12 lead in the first eleven minutes of the game as Tim Derksen connected on his only three of the game.  The Gators went on a 10-2 run in the next four minutes as Decensae White's lay-up cut the hosts' lead to 27-22.

The Dons increased their lead to 44-25 as Frank Rogers' two made free throws capped a 17-3 run by the hosts as they build their largest lead of the half.  Nefi Perdomo's three at the buzzer send the game into the half with a 49-35 USF lead.

The hosts started the second half where they left off the first as they outscored SF State, 13-2 in the first five minutes of the new stanza to take a 62-37 lead.

SF State would not go away as Robbie Herndon's old-fashioned three-point play capped a 15-2 Gator run to cut the deficit to 64-52.
USF would not succumb to the Gators as the Dons outscored their visitors, 14-6 in the next to increase their lead back to 20 (78-58) with a little under 9 minutes to go in the game.

SF State could not get any closer than 15 points as the Dons went on to a 93-77 victory.

“We received some good things from Calvin (Otiono), Nefi (Perdomo) and Robbie (Herndon) and some great energy from Brandon (Tatum) off the bench, but we still have a long way to go,” added Trevor.  “We have three weeks to get better for our opener on November 16.”

USF had six players in double figures led by Cole Dickerson's 21 points.  He also had 15 rebounds.  The Gators did win the battle on the boards 37-35 with Otiono and Herndon leading the way with 5 each.
