Mavericks Shoot Past Gators in 86-78 Victory

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.— Five Minnesota State Mavericks scored in double digits led by Connor O'Brien's game high 19 points to key their 86-78 over the SF State Gators in the second night of the Ron Logsdon Classic in Rohnert Park, Calif.  The Mavericks (3-0) shot 62% from the field including 50% from three-point line as they finished 2-0 in the classic. 
 
O'Brien finished going 8-for-9 from the field including connecting on both of his three-point attempts.  He also blocked three shot attempts by the Gators and grabbed six rebounds.  Jarvis Williams recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.  Gage Wooten added 11 points while Assem Marei and Zach Romashko each chipped in 10 points.
 
SF State (0-2) had four players score in double figures led by the duo of Calvin Otiono and Decensae White ach with 17 points.  White was 7-for-11 from the field including 3-for-4 from three-point land while Otiono was 6-for-11 from the field and a perfect four-for-four from the charity stripe.  Robbie Herndon added 15 points off the bench for the Gators and William Overton, Jr. chipped in 13 points.
 
The Gators started out on fire as they took a 9-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game capped by a White three off an assist from James Albright.  Minnesota State took its first lead of the game (16-14) at the 13:31 mark of the first half, when O'Brien capped a 16-5 run by the Mavericks.

SF State retook the lead on an Otiono jumper with 10:18 left in the half.  The Gators increased their lead to 30-26 on a Herndon lay-up with a little over six minutes to go in the first half.
 
The Mavericks outscored SF State 12-2 in the next four minutes to take a 38-32 lead on a Jarvis Williams' lay-up.  SF State outscored its opponents 7-4 in the final two minutes of the half to cut the deficit to 42-48 heading into the locker room.
 
In the second half, the Mavericks increased their lead to eight (50-42) on a jumper by Williams in the first two minutes of the new stanza. 
 
Andre Jones' three-pointer capped a 14-8 run by the Gators and cut the Maverick lad to just 58-56 at the 12:33 mark of the new stanza. 
 
Once again, the Mavericks extended their lead to 73-66 on a Williams' lay-up in the next five minutes but the Gators would not go away.
 
SF State followed that Maverick run with a 7-2 run of its own capped by a Herndon three off an assist from White to cut the deficit to 75-73 with 2:20 on the clock. 
 
Minnesota State sealed the game in the next two minutes as the Mavericks outscored their opponents 9-2 to increase their lead to 84-75. 

White's three cut the Maverick lead to 84-78, but the Gators could not get any closer as Zach Monaghan connected on his two free throw attempts to give Minnesota State the 86-78 victory.
 
SF State will return to the court on Friday, Nov. 23 at 5:30pm in Chico, Calif., as the Gators will participate in the Carl's Jr. Mac Martin Classic at Acker Gymnasium on the campus of Chico State University.  The Gators will face #9 Seattle Pacific in their first game of the tournament on the 23.  On the next night, SF State will face the Mountain Lions of the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.
