Gators Sweep Humboldt State To End Regular Season at 21-8

ARCATA, Calif.— SF State's volleyball team won in three sets (26-24, 25-18, 25-22) over Humboldt State this evening in both team's 2012 regular season finale.  With the win, the Gators finished the regular season with a 21-8 overall record and a 16-6 record in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).  For the first time in school history, the Gators had their fourth straight winning season.  SF State also finished tied for second place in the CCAA with Sonoma State, the Gators' highest ever finish in the conference.
 
Jazmine Williams paced the Gators with her season high 17 kills and a .739 hitting percentage.  Meagan Wright added 12 kills for SF State, who were ranked 7th in this week's NCAA Division II West Regional rankings.   Wright also had five of the Gators' seven service aces.
 
As a team, the Gators had a .321 hitting percentage for the evening while Humboldt State (3-26, 1-21 CCAA) had just a .212 percentage.  Alexa Rosendale paced the Lumberjacks with 17 kills.  She also had 10 digs while Tiffany McCray added 14. 
 
Humboldt State took a17-15 lead in set one on a Channel Washington kill.  The Gators tied the set at 20-20 on an attacking error by the hosts.  The Lumberjacks took a 22-20 advantage on a Gator attacking error, but SF State finished out the set by scoring six of the final eight points to take the set 26-24 on a Wright kills off an assist from Iris Tolenada.
 
In the second set, the Gators took an 8-2 lead as Kelly Ostello had three kills and Jazmine Williams added two before Humboldt State called a time-out.  SF State increased its lead to 15-6 another kill by Wright.
 
The Lumberjacks closed the Gator lead to 18-10 on an Ashley Neale kill.  Back to back kills by Williams gave the visitors a 20-10 lead as they cruised to a 25-18 set two win capped by a kill by Wright.
 
After the intermission between the two sets, SF State started the final set scoring five of the first six points as Kelly Costello gave the Gators a 5-1 lead.  Humboldt State did not go away as they tied the set at 8-8 on an Allison Drobish kill. 
 
SF State increased its lead to 15-9 on a service by Wright.  The hosts still would not crumble as they scored 12 of the next 17 points to take a 21-20 lead on a Renshaw service ace. 
 
On the next serve, the Gators tied it on a service error.  Humboldt State took the lead back, 22-21, on a Renshaw kill.  Williams' kill tied the match at 22-22 and then SF State scored the final three points of the game to take the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
 
Iris Tolenada finished with 49 assists for SF State, who now await to see where they play in the NCAA Division II West Regionals and who they will play in the first round which starts on Nov. 29.
