Box Score TURLOCK, Calif.--- The Cal State Stanislaus Warriors (12-7, 8-7 CCAA) withstood a late rally by the visiting SF State Gators to hold on for the 72-68 conference victory at Fitzgerald Arena on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus this evening in Turlock. Reggie Jones scored 7 of his game high 20 points in the final five minutes of the game including going 5-for-6 to key the Warriors' victory. Freshman post player
David Love paced the Gators with a season high 17 points off the bench.
“Our whole team woke up in the second half and battled, but we could not make the play to get over the hump,” said SF State Head Coach
Paul Trevor. “Nefi (Perdomo) and Tyler (Brown) played very unselfish and were great teammates this evening.”
The Gators' bench outscored the Warriors with Love's 17 points and
Nefi Perdomo's 15 points leading the way.
James Albright chipped in 14 points for the Gators, who out-rebounded the Warriors 36-30 led by
Max Fodor with 8 rebounds.
Dan Daviess added 12 points for the Warriors while Brett Sayad chipped in 11 points. Cal
The Warriors jumped out to an early 11-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game. Albright's old-fashioned three-point play capped an 11-2 run by the Gators in the next five minutes as they cut the hosts lead to 13-10.
Cal State Stanislaus outscored the Gators 17-9 in the next eight minutes to extend its lead to 30-19.
SF State finished the half outscoring the Warriors 13-9 in the final four minutes to cut the hosts' lead to 39-32 heading into the locker room.
Daviess' three at the 13:25 mark of the second half capped an 11-5 run by the Warriors to give them their largest lead of the game, 50-38.
The Gators would not go away as they outscored their hosts 28-14 and took their first lead of the game, 66-64, on
Tyler Brown's two made free throws with a little over two minutes left in regulation.
On the Warriors, next possession they tied the game at 66-66 on Jones' lay-up. SF State had a chance to tie the game on its next possession, but they missed two free throws and a couple of shots when Jones finally grabbed a defensive rebound. He was fouled and connected on both free throws to give Cal State Stanislaus a 68-66 lead with 31 ticks on the clock.
David Love tied the game with 17 seconds left on the Gators' next possession. SF State then fouled the Warriors'
Daviess who went 1-for-2 from the line to give the Warriors a 70-68 lead with 15 seconds to go.
SF State turned the ball over with a chance to tie the game and the Gators were forced to foul Jones again, who sealed the win for Cal State Stanislaus, as he made both free throws.
The Gators (5-15, 3-12 CCAA) will continue its four-game road trip tomorrow evening at 7:30pm, when they travel to Chico, Calif., for a conference showdown with the Chico State Wildcats. Chico State, who is in a five-way tie for first place in the CCAA, defeated Cal Poly Pomona 75-55 this evening in Chico. The Wildcats defeated the Gators 72-66 on Dec. 1 in San Francisco.
