SF State Falls in Final Minute to Simon Fraser, 72-68

BURNABY, BC--- The Simon Fraser Clan (3-1) outscored the visiting SF State Gators 8-0 in the final 80 seconds of this afternoon's non-conference game in Canada to key their 72-68 come-from-behind victory over the Gators.  Leticia Galarza led the way for the visitors with a season high 15 points off the bench. 
 
Erin Chambers led the way for the Clan with a double-double scoring a game high 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.  She also dished out three assists, blocked two shots and recorded steals.  The Clan hit back to back three-pointers including one from Chambers on a four-point play with 39 seconds left to give the hosts a 71-68 lead.
 
The first half was evenly played as there were five ties including the last one at 26-26 with 1:07 left in the half.  Chelsea Reist's lay-up gave Simon Fraser the 28-26 lead heading into the locker room at the half.
 
The Gators (3-2) started the second half on a 7-2 run capped by a Galarza free throw to take a 35-30 lead.
 
SF State increased its lead to 49-41 on a three by Galarza, but the Clan went on a 14-6 run to tie the game at 55-55 on a three by Katie Lowen with a little over six minutes left in the game.
 
A three by Jasmine Flanagan capped a 5-0 run by the Gators to give the visitors a 60-55 lead with 5:25 on the clock.
 
The Gators held a 64-59 lead, but the Clan held the Gators scoreless for the next two minutes and tied the game at 64-64 on two made free throws by Chambers with just 2:30 to go in the game.
 
SF State retook the lead, 68-64, on its next two possessions in thanks to a lay-up by Jennifer Le and two free throws by Angela Van Sickel with 90 ticks on the clock.
 
That is when Chambers stepped up for the hosts and scored four of the game's last eight points to give the Clan the 72-68 victory. 
 
Besides receiving 15 points from Galarza, the Gators had three other players in double figures.  Katie Batlin recorded her third double-double of the season scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while Jennifer Le added 10 points.  Kimmie Fung scored a season high 10 points off the bench for the visitors while dishing out a team high four assists.
 
SF State will be off until Friday, December 6 at 5:30pm PST, when the Gators host #9 Chico State in their CCAA opener.  Prior to the game, the SF State Alumni Association will be sponsoring "The Campus Comes Alive After 5" event in front of the Main Gymnasium with food from Taqueria Girasol and entertainment.
