White's Buzzer Beater Defeats #4 CPP, 57-55

SAN FRANCISCO--   ----    SF State's Decensae White hit a half-court buzzer beater to defeat the visiting fourth-ranked Cal Poly Pomona Broncos, 57-55 this evening at The Swamp. White finished the night with 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for the Gators (14-9, 12-7 CCAA). The Gators will return home for the final time this regular season tomorrow evening when they host Humboldt State in a 7:30pm scheduled tip-off.
 
”It was a great win for our program,” said SF State head coach Paul Trevor.  “Cal Poly Pomona is an elite team and we had a great team effort to defeat the Broncos.”  “Decensae White was a great all-around player for us this evening and Brandon Tatum did a great job for us in the paint.”
 
SF State and Cal Poly Pomona played an even first half as they were seven ties including the last one, 17-17, with 6:41 to go in the half.  The Gators then went on a 7-0 run capped by a Brandon Tatum made tip-in to give SF State a 24-17 lead.
 
Cal Poly Pomona finished the half outscoring the Gators, 5-2 to cut the deficit to 26-22 on a DeRonn Scott three heading into the locker room.
 
The Broncos (21-2, 17-2 CCAA) took a 32-31 lead on a Terrence Drisdom lay-up to cap a 9-5 run in the first five minutes of the second half.  They increased their lead to 40-34 on a Mitchel Anderson lay-up in the next four minutes. 
 
SF State did not give in as the Gators retook the lead on a James Albright three, 43-42, with 9:25 to go in the game. 
 
The fourth ranked Broncos came right back and took a 47-43 lead on an old-fashioned three-point play by Mohamed Fell. 
 
The Gators retook the lead as Winston Demmin's three capped a 8-0 run to give the hosts a 51-47 lead with 3:37 left in the game.
 
Then the game went back and forth with Cal Poly Pomona taking a 55-54 lead with two seconds left on the clock on a Jordan Faison lay-up. 
 
That is when White hit a half-court buzzer beater to give the Gators the 57-55 victory. 
 
Besides White's double-double, Brandon Tatum added 9 points and 9 rebounds for the Gators.
 
Terrence Drisdom had 17 points to lead the way for the Broncos, who are second in the NCAA Division II West Region. 
 
SF State, currently ranked ninth in the region, will return home for the final time in  regular season play tomorrow evening when they host Humboldt State tomorrow evening in a 7:30pm game.  Humboldt State lost to Sonoma State, 83-68, this evening in Rohnert Park. 

Prior to the game, the Gators will recognize their three seniors in James Albright, Winston Demmin and Decensae White as a part of Senior Night.
