SF State drops road game to Coyotes

Calvin Otiono led the Gators with 15 points in a loss at Cal State San Bernardino.
Box Score SAN BERNARDINO --- Turnovers and missed opportunities proved to be the downfall for the SF State Gators Thursday night in San Bernardino as host squad Cal State San Bernardino ran away with the 89-58 victory. The Gators shot at a 32-percent from the field, 24-percent from the arc, while allowing the Coyotes to finish the night with a 53.1 shooting percentage, 48-percent from the perimeter.

The Gators (15-10, 13-8 CCAA)--who rank eighth in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Div. II West Region--now sit tied for third with Chico State in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. CSUSB, who stands at sixth in the region, improves to 17-7, 15-6 in conference.

Calvin Otiono led the Gators with 15 points on the night, followed by Decensae White's 12 points. For the Coyotes, all five starters finished the night with points in double figures led by Brian Goins with 18 points. Lacy Haddock completed a double-double after scoring 10 points and adding 14 assists.

The Coyotes paced the game from the beginning, despite letting the Gators take a brief one-point lead in the first half, taking advantage of the Gators' 20 turnovers. Once CSUSB took the lead back, the Coyotes steam rolled to grab a 28-point lead heading into halftime at 53-25.

Struggling to find its footing, SF State couldn't find the basket and surrendered as high as a 41-point lead to the Coyotes. While the Gators managed to cut the lead down into the 20s, they couldn't maintain it nor put runs together, finishing the game with the 31-point hole at 89-58.

SF State heads to UC San Diego, looking to rebound in order to host the first round of the CCAA tournament next week. The Gators take on the Tritons, who dropped a 68-57 decision to Sonoma State tonight, with a tipoff time of 7:30 p.m.
