SAN FRANCISCO --- The SF State softball squad may be in a little drought, but the Gators have been hanging right there with their opponents over the past two weeks, facing strong California Collegiate Athletic Association teams. This weekend, the Gators will get a break from CCAA action as they head to Turlock for the Tournament of Champions, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus.
SF State will take on five Pacific West teams in pool play before looking to advance in the bracket and challenge for another tournament championship, after previously taking the Best of the West Invitational earlier this season in Turlock. On Friday, the Gators open the tournament with a 2:15 p.m. game against California Baptist, followed by Chaminade at 4:15 p.m. and Hawaii Hilo at 8:15 p.m. Saturday's action features a 12:15 p.m. contest with National Collegiate Athletic Association Div. II No. 21-ranked Grand Canyon and a 4:30 p.m. rematch against Dominican University of California.
Tournament Info
The 2013 Tournament of Champions consists of 26 teams from the West Region, stemming from three different conferences: CCAA, PacWest and Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Teams will compete at either the Pedretti Sports Complez, Turlock Regional Sports Complex or Warrior Softball Field over the course of three days. All SF State games will feature live stats found at

SF State currently sits with a 13-20 overall record, hoping to snap a seven-game losing streak, and a .244 team batting average.

Kylie Grabowski share the top batting average, each boasting a .295 average at the plate. Grabowski also leads the team with 16 RBIs.

Cal Baptist boasts a 19-16 record entering tournament play. Savannah Miller and Sloan McHann lead the Lancers at the plate with .414 and .385 batting averages, respectively. As a team, CBU bats at .353, proving it can be a threat at laying down hits. ... Jessica Avila leads the pitching staff with a 2.45 ERA in 131.2 innings pitched and has thrown 63 strikeouts.

Chaminade comes into the weekend with a 15-13 record on the season and batting .268 as a team. Rayna Strom-Okimoto tops the squad with 37 hits for a .385 average, followed by Shannan Hokama with a .349 average. ... In the circle, Brett Aspel holds a 2.89 ERA in 101.2 innings pitched and has tossed 45 knockouts.
Vulcan Notes
Hawaii-Hilo currently stands 24-14 overall and bats at .290 as a team. Rebecca Lee leads the Vulcans with a .422 average at the plate, followed by Kristina Victa with a .383 average. ... Vanessa Salinas holds down the circle for Hawaii-Hilo with a 1.46 ERA in 124.1 innings pitched, with 60 strikeouts.
