SAN FRANCISCO --- The SF State Gators improved to 3-1 in dual meets with a 51-0 win over the visiting 14
th ranked Simpson University Red Hawks this afternoon in a non-conference win at The Swamp.
Conrad Snell recorded his 9
th win by fall at 1:25 over Simpson's Marco Frantanoni to lead the way for the Gators.
The match started off with
Marc Collier improving to 4-6 with a win by forfeit. The Gators took a 9-0 lead as
Isaiah Hurtado (16-5) won by a 2-0 decision over the Red Hawks' AJ Valles at 133. Valles is currently ranked number one in the nation in NAIA.
Dylan Phillipy gave the Gators a 14-0 lead as he won by a 16-0 technical fall decision at 6:17 over the Red Hawks' Hector Lopez to improve to 12-8 on the season. Then at 149, Snell (12-7) won by fall at 1:25 to record his 9
th win by fall to give the Gators a 20-0 lead.
SF State won the next two matches by decision and major decision. At 157,
Tavis Ino improved to 13-10 with a 6-4 decision over Simpson's Ritchie Ortiz. Then
Vicente Aboytes gave the Gators a 27-0 lead heading into the final four matches with a 11-2 major decision over Chan Chao (Simpson) to improve to 11-8.
The Gators won the final four matches all by forfeits to take the dual 51-0. Victors for the Gators were
Calvin Nicholls (174),
Zach Jimenez (184),
Andrew Reggi (197) and
Hildelv Manzur (285). Nicholls improved to 6-10 while Jimenez is now 15-6. Reggi improves his record to 15-5 while Manzur is now 12-9.
SF State will return to the mat on Saturday, January 18 when the Gators travel to Kearney, Neb., to participate in the UNK Midwest Duals. The Gators will open up with a match at 9am CDT against #6 Adams State. They will then face Chadron State at 11:30am CDT, followed by #9 Western State at 2pm. The Gators will end the day with a 4pm CDT starting match with Northern State.
