Box Score SEASIDE---  The SF State Gators women's basketball team started their four-game road trip with a 65-59 win over Cal State Monterey Bay this evening at The Kelp Bed in Seaside.  Angela Van Sickel had a game high 25 points including 14 points to lead the Gators (10-7, 6-5 CCAA).  The Gators held the Otters to just 27% shooting in the second half to key their road conference win.

"Defensively, we continue to improve as we played an inspired second half," said SF State head coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace.  "Although CSUMB has not won a game, they were the best defensive team in the conference."  "Therefore, we were able to execute offensively against a quality defensive team."

The Otters (3-11, 0-11 CCAA) built a 17-11 in the first nine minutes of the game.  They increased that lead to 33-22 on a lay-up by Alexous Robinson with 1:54 left in the first stanza, but the Gators finished the half on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 33-29 heading into the locker room.

Cal State Monterey Bay held a 38-33 lead in the first three minutes of the new stanza, but the Gators went on a 8-2 run to take their first lead of the game, 41-40.  SF State increased its lead to 48-43 on a Katie Batlin lay-up at the 11:10 mark of the second stanza.

The Otters would not go away as they tied the game at 48-48 with 9:17 to go in the game, but the Gators followed that with an 11-0 run to take a 59-48 a lead they would not relinquish.

The hosts cut their deficit to 59-56 on a three by Angelique Bailey with under two minutes to go in the game.  SF State sealed the win as they outscored its hosts 7-3 in the final two minutes to take the 66-59 win.

Besides Van Sickel's 25 points, Katie Batlin had 13 points.

Bailey and Robinson each led the Otters with 11 points.

With the win, the Gators are tied for 7th place with Chico State. They will travel to Hayward tomorrow evening for a 5:30pm scheduled contest with Cal State East Bay.  The Pioneers defeated Sonoma State 71-39 this evening at home.
