Balanced Scoring Attack Surges Gators To 81-57 Win

Box Score SAN FRANCSICO --- The SF State Gators (13-11, 11-10 CCAA) used a balanced scoring attack and a strong second half surge to defeat the visiting Cal State East Bay Pioneers 81-57.  The Gators are still alive for the 2013-14 CCAA Basketball Championships as they are in sixth place heading into the final game of the regular season tomorrow night.
 
"We had 17 assists this evening," said head coach Paul Trevor.  "It was really nice to see us share the ball, which led to open looks for our guys," "Now we have to prepare for CSU Monterey Bay tomorrow night.  We need to play tougher as we look to carry on the momentum from tonight."
 
Nefi Perdomo paced the Gators with 23 points and was one of four players to score in double digits for the hosts.  Bennie Rhodes had 15 points off the bench for SF State.  Senior Brandon Tatum recorded a double-double for SF State with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Calvin Otiono chipped in 13 points.
 
The Gators out-rebounded the Pioneers (7-20, 4-17 CCAA) 39-23 and held their guests to 39% shooting from the field. 
 
Nick Grieves and Gabe Kindred each had 17 points to lead the Pioneers.
 
The first half saw the Gators build a 32-25 lead with 4:04 left, but the Pioneers finished the half on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 34-31 heading into the locker room.
 
SF State came out on fire in the second half as the Gators built a 56-40 mid-way through the new stanza. 
 
The Gators increased that lead to 75-51 on two free throws by Bennie Rhodes and cruised to an 81-57 victory.
 
SF State will return to the court for the final time of the regular season tomorrow night, when the Gators host Cal State Monterey Bay who defeated Sonoma State 79-69 in overtime this evening.
 
Prior to the game, the Gators will recognize their seven seniors in Bennie Rhodes, Erik Fearn, Will Overton, Jr., Brandon Tatum, Calvin Otiono, Max Fodor and Nefi Perdomo.
