Gators Clinch Spot in CCAA Championships Tournament with 66-47 Win on Senior Night

SAN FRANCISCO –With their 66-47 win over the visiting Cal State Monterey Bay Otters, the SF State Gators clinched a berth in the 2013-14 CCAA Basketball Championships next week in Ontario, Calif., at the Citizens Business Bank Arena starting on Thursday, March 6.  Nefi Perdomo led the way with a game high 19 points while Max Fodor had 10 points and 9 rebounds for the victors. 
 
"I was very excited for this team to represent our university next week at the CCAA Championship Tournament," said SF State head coach Paul Trevor.  "It was emotional night for us---we had good energy down the stretch."
 
The Gators (13-11, 12-10 CCAA) were led by their seniors (Nefi Perdomo, Max Fodor, Calvin Otiono, Brandon Tatum, Will Overton, Jr., Bennie Rhodes and Erik Fearn).  "Everyone had a part of the win this evening especially the seven seniors."
 
Perdomo had 19 points while Fodor was one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
 
The Otters (10-15, 8-14 CCAA) were led by Alex Fertig's 12 points.
 
The first half was evenly played with the Otters building a 13-7 lead midway through the half.  The Gators went on a 9-2 run to take a 16-15 lead on a Calvin Otiono jumper at the 9:39 mark.
The Otters came right back and took a 29-25 lead at the 3:58 mark, but SF State held them scoreless in the next two minutes to take a 33-29 lead.
 
Cal State Monterey Bay outscored the Gators 6-2 to tie the game at 35-35 heading into the locker room.
 
The Otters held a brief 40-37 lead in the first five minutes of the second half, but SF State went on a 16-3 to take a 53-43 lead with 7:05 left in the game. 
 
"I am excited for our guys to get to play in the First Round of the CCAA Championship Tournament this coming Thursday," added Trevor.  "I am looking forward to seeing us competing at the next level."
 
The Gators increased their lead to 66-47, which was the largest of the game and ended being the final score as they clinched the sixth and final spot in the CCAA Championship Tournament next week.  
 
SF State will face Chico State in the quarterfinals this Thursday, March 6 at 2:30pm PST at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif.  The winner of the Gators-Chico State game will play Cal Poly Pomona in the semi-finals at 2:30pm the next evening.  The championship game is set for March 8 at 5pm PST.
