Gators Host Notre Dame de Namur Before Heading Back to the Road

Jennifer Lewis and the Gators host Notre Dame de Namur on Tuesday before going back on the road this weekend.
San Francisco, Calif. – The SF State softball team will wrap up its lengthy home stand with a pair of non-conference games on Tuesday at the SF State Softball Field against Notre Dame de Namur.  Game one is slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch against the Argonauts.  On Friday, the Gators will begin a four-game CCAA showdown against No. 14 Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside, Calif.

The Gators enter this week with an overall record of 10-21 and are 6-14 in the CCAA.  Last week the Gators went 3-3, sweeping Cal State Stanislaus during Wednesday's doubleheader before falling to Chico State three games to one in the weekend series.

SF State received a tremendous pitching performance from its entire rotation last week, as the Gators pitchers lowered the team ERA almost 70 points, to a mark of 4.09.  Leading the team is freshman lefty Megan Clark who in 14 appearances sports an ERA of 3.45, last week she went 2-1 with a miniscule 0.74 ERA, in 19.0 innings pitched she scattered 16 hits, three runs, two earned, with four walks and 10 strike outs.

Out of the pen, freshman Courtney Dunkel had her strongest performance as a Gator, throwing 5.1 scoreless innings against the Wildcats on Sunday.  Against Cal State Stanislaus on Wednesday, sophomore starter Emily Gibson threw a career-high 10 innings, en-route to her team-leading fifth win of the season. 

At the plate, the Gators boast a team average of .270, the Gators are seeing tremendous production from the top of the order with sophomore Jennifer Lewis leading the squad with a .378 average.  She shares the team lead with junior Lucy Fernandez with 14 RBI on the year.  Senior catcher Kylie Grabowski had a big week at the plate for the Gators, she hit .364 going 4-for-11 with three RBI and drew six walks.

Notre Dame de Namur enters Tuesday's contest with an overall record of 14-18 and are 8-18 in the Pac-West Conference.  The Argonauts are currently mired in a three-game skid after losing two-straight to Cal Baptists last week.

As a team, they are hitting .254 with junior infielder Lindsay Handy leading the team with a .328 average.  In the circle the Argonauts sport a staff ERA of 5.30 with freshman pitcher Jenna Bassler leading the team with a 4.28 ERA and an 8-6 record.

Cal State Monterey Bay enters this week ranked No. 14 in the nation according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.  The Otters boast a record of 22-5 and are 12-4 in the CCAA and have won four in a row, 14 of their last 15. 

As a team, CSUMB is hitting .351 and averages 5.81 runs per game.  Leading the team at the plate is sophomore utility player Bianca Noriega who is hitting .469 ,of her 38 hits, 16 have been extra base hits as she has tallied 14 doubles and two home runs. 

In the circle the Otters sport a staff ERA of 1.98 which is tops in the conference.  In 176.1 innings pitched CSUMB has scattered 123 hits, 50 earned runs, 74 walks while striking out 155.  Leading the team with an 11-2 record is sophomore Lindsey Clarkson, while junior pitcher Cori Reinhardt is right behind her with nine wins and a 1.79 ERA.
