Big Innings Lead Otters In Sweep Over Gators

Junior Courtney Gravel went 3-for-3 in the game 2 loss to No. 16 Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Seaside, Calif. – The SF State softball team had a rough day at the plate as No. 16 Cal State Monterey Bay took both halves of Friday's CCAA double header at Otter Sports Complex.  The Otters (24-5/14-4 CCAA) took game one 6-2 before winning the nightcap 3-0.

In game one, starter Emily Gibson (5-11) started off the day effectively wild, throwing three scoreless innings, while scattering three walks.  In the bottom of the fourth inning things fell apart for Gibson and the Gators (10-23/6-16 CCAA).

The Otters led off the fateful rally with a double by Madison Casto.  After retiring the next two batters, the inning unraveled, CSUMB singled five-straight times to, scoring five run.  The final hit by Bianca Noriega ended the day for Gibson who went 3.2 innings, allowing nine hits, six runs, three earned, with four walks.

Jenny Obbema entered the game for the Gators to wrap up the fourth inning, she pitched well scattering three hits as she held the Otters scoreless the rest of the game.

The Gators scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning, Jennifer Lewis singled up the middle, Lucy Fernandez reached on an error by the third baseman.  Kelsey Murakami singled through the right side that scored Lewis, putting the Gators on the board.  Gabby Reta recorded the other RBI that allowed Fernandez to score.

Otter's starter Cori Reinhardt (10-3) earned the win, going seven complete, scattering three hits, allowing the two earned runs, with two strike outs.

In the nightcap the Gators sent out lefty Megan Clark (4-8) who has been on a tear for the Gators.  Unfortunately, tonight she was once again the hard luck loser, taking the loss after going the distance and allowing just six hits, while scattering two earned runs.

Once again the Otters struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning, Anneliese Lopez started the rally with a two-out single to left field, she scored one batter later on the double to center field by Noriega.

CSUMB scored two more runs in the third on a one-out two-run single by Casto that put the Otters out front for good.  The three runs would hold up as starter Lindsey Clarkson (11-2) went the distance, throwing a seven-hit complete game shutout.

Courtney Gravel went 3-for-3 in the night cap, Torrey Rook was the only other Gator to collect multiple hits on the day, she went 2-for-2.   Lewis and Murakami tallied the other Gators hits.

The Gators and Otters return to action tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. when they look to complete the four game series.
