Gators Return to Turlock To Play in Tournament of Champions

The Gators will head back to Turlock this weekend to participate in the annual Tournament of Champions presented by Mizuno.
San Francisco, Calif. – The SF State softball team will return to Turlock, Calif., to participate in the Tournament of Champions presented by Mizuno and hosted by Cal State Stanislaus Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6.  The Gators will play five pool games Friday and Saturday to determine the Championship bracket on Sunday.

Twenty-four teams from three different conferences will be split up into four pools. Teams from the CCAA, the Pac-West and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference will make up the four pools.  The games will be played at Pedretti Sports Complex Fields, and Turlock Regional Sports Complex fields, all in Turlock.  

The Gators are in Pool A comprised of Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Northwest Nazarene, Sonoma State, and UC San Diego.  Pool A will compete against Pool B which is made up of Academy of Art, Cal Baptist, Chaminade, Dominican, Hawaii-Pacific, and Notre Dame de Namur.

SF State will play three games on Friday, starting with a noon game against Cal Baptist.  At 6 p.m. the Gators will play Chaminade and finish the evening with an 8:30 game against Notre Dame de Namur.  On Saturday SFSU will play a pair of games starting at noon against Academy of Art, they wrap up pool play taking on Dominican at 3:30 p.m.

The Gators enter this weekend's competition with an overall record of 10-25.  At the plate SF State is hitting .259 and averaging 2.51 runs per game.  Courtney Gravel leads the team at the plate, hitting .364; she is tied for sixth in the conference with 43 hits.
 
In the circle, Megan Clark leads the team with a 3.14 ERA.  In her last seven starts she has allowed two or less earned runs.  She ranks in the top-10 in the conference in several categories.  She is ninth in the CCAA in innings pitched (87.0), eighth in strike outs with 44, and fifth in complete games with 10.
