San Francisco – The SF State volleyball team wraps up its four-match home stand this weekend, hosting Cal Poly Pomona and UC San Diego in back-to-back California Collegiate Athletic Association matches. The Gators and Broncos will tangle Friday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m., while the Gators and Tritons will square off on Saturday at 7 p.m.
SF State enters this weekend's matches with an overall record of 4-5 which includes a 2-2 mark in the CCAA. Last weekend the Gators split their matches, upsetting No. 7 Cal State San Bernardino in five thrilling sets. It marked the first time since October 1992 the Gators defeated the Coyotes. They followed that up with a four set defeat at the hands of visiting Humboldt State.
The Gators are tops in the conference in total kills with 452, they average 13.29 kills per set which ranks second in the conference. Through nine matches the Gators attack has been incredibly balanced, SF State has five players averaging better than 2.3 kills per set. Leading the team is junior outside hitter
Jaclyn Clark who has recorded 88 kills and is averaging 2.59 kills per set.
Senior setter
Jacquie Brice runs the show. She is currently tops in the conference with 350 assists and is second in assists per set, averaging 10.29 assists per set. In just over a year, Brice already ranks eighth all-time in assists with 1,499 career assists. Junior libero
Jessica Nicerio is also having a tremendous season, her 16 aces on the year ranks 91
st in the country. Meanwhile, her 4.44 digs per set ranks third in the conference and her 151 dig's ranks second. She currently ranks fourth all-time in digs for a career at SF State with 1,059.
Cal Poly Pomona enters Friday's match with an overall record of 5-3 and is 3-2 in CCAA play. The Broncos have tallied 428 kills on the year, averaging 12.6 kills per set and are hitting .182. Their opponents average 11.4 kills per set and are hitting .152. Freshman outside hitter Deanna Blaine leads the Broncos with 90 kills, averaging 2.65 kills per set. CPP boasts two setters averaging better than five assists per set, leading the team is freshman setter Alina Smith who has 193 assists on the year. Junior libero Zoe Herrera has 136 digs on the year, averaging 4.0 digs per set.
The Tritons enter this weekend with a 6-3 record and are 4-1 in the CCAA. UCSD has recorded 448 kills on the year, averaging 12.11 kills per set and are hitting .184. Their opponents average 11.62 kills per set and are hitting .173. Leading the team in kills is Caitlin Brenton who has 111 kills in 37 sets, averaging 3.00 kills per set. Setter Heidi Sierks averages 9.35 assists per set and has recorded 346 assists on the year. Defensively, Makensie Bates leads the team with 149 digs, averaging 4.14 digs per set.
