@SFState_WRSTL Captures Four of 10 Matches in 20-12 Loss to CSUB

Sam Alnassiri Improved to 13-9 with a 2-1 OT-3 Win This Afternoon

BAKERSFIED –   The SF State Gators lost a tough 20-12 non-conference dual in Bakersfield, Calif., to the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners (5-4) this afternoon at the Icardo Center.   Gator winners were: 184-Johnny Costa, 285-Sam Alnassiri, 149-Daniel Flores and 157-Alex Abono.

The Gators took a 3-0 lead to open up the match when Costa (14-10) defeated the Roadrunners' Sean Pollack by a 10-5 decision.  Cal State Bakersfield tied the match at 3-3 as Matt Williams defeated the Gators' Andrew Reggi (16-6) by an 8-6 decision in overtime.  Reggi is currently ranked eighth in the nation in NCAA Division II. 

SF State retook the lead at 285, as Sam Alnassiri won in the third period of overtime, 3-1 over the Roadrunners' Steven Wood.  Alnassiri improves to 13-9 with the win as the Gators took a 6-3 lead.

Cal State Bakersfield (5-4) took a 7-6 lead with a 9-0 major decision by Sergio Mendez over the Gators' Brandon Vu (15-12).  Ian Nickell, who is 28th in the nation in the coaches' NCAA Division I Coaches Rankings, increased the Roadrunners lead to 10-6 with a slim 5-4 decision over SF State's Jordan Gurrola (20-7).

Daniel Flores (10-5) put the Gators back on the board with 5-1 decision over CSUB's Zach Zimmer to cut the deficit to 10-9.

Cal State Bakersfield increased its lead to 14-9 with a 15-2 major decision at 149 by Coleman Hammond over the Gators' Tavis Ino (11-14). 
Alex Abono (10-2) won by a 4-3 decision over CSUB's Spencer Hill to cut the Roadrunner lead to 14-12.

Cal State Bakersfield took the final two matches of the dual to take the 20-12 victory.

At 165, Adam Fierro (who is 20th in the coaches' rankings) won by a tight 1-0 decision over SF State's Vicente Aboytes (13-10).  In the final bout of the dual, Bryce Hammond defeated the Gators' Peter Santos (16-8) by a 4-1 decision.  Hammond is currently 13th in the nation coaches' rankings.

SF State will return home this Friday, January 30th for two important regional match-ups.  The Gators will host Cal Baptist at 2:30pm and Simon Fraser at 4pm.  Simon Fraser will wrestle Cal Baptist at 1pm and Minnesota State Moorhead at 2:30pm. 

The Gators will also host the Annual California Collegiate Open this Saturday, January 31 starting at 9am.
