@SFState_MBB To Begin Second Half of CCAA Season on the Road

SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State Gators will begin the second half of the CCAA season with a four-game road trip.  The Gators will begin the trip in Southern California this Thursday, January 29 at Cal State San Bernardino.  They will then travel to Northern California this Saturday, January 31 for a game at Humboldt State.  Tip-off for both games is set for 7:30pm PST.

SF State is coming off a 2-0 home stand which the Gators defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 66-60, and Cal State L.A., 69-60.  With the two wins, SF State is 8-8 overall and 6-6 which places the Gators in a four-way tie for fifth place with Cal State San Bernardino, Humboldt State and Sonoma State. 

In their win against the Toros last Friday, Jon McMurry paced the Gators with a season high 16 points while Udun Osakue added 13 and Andre Jones chipped in 11.  Bren Haley added 9 points and 7 assists for the victors.  Then this past Saturday, SF State defeated Cal State L.A. behind Osakue game high 22 points while Derrick Brown chipped in 20 points.  Haley added 7 points and 9 assists.

SF State is averaging 59.3 points and 29.8 rebounds per game while its opponents are averaging 61.2 points and 29.1 rebounds per game.  The Gators, who are seventh in the nation in scoring defense, are forcing their opponents into 15.2 turnovers per game while recording 8.4 steals per game. 

Osakue leads the team with his 13.9 scoring average, 5.1 rebounding average and 54% shooting from the field.  Brown is second on the team with his 10.3 scoring average followed by Haley's 8.1 points per game average.  Haley leads the team with his 77 assists and 81.6% shooting from the line while Jones has a team leading 24 steals.  AJ Kahlon has blocked a team high 16 shots. 

Cal State San Bernardino is 6-9 overall and 6-6 in the CCAA. The Coyotes are also tied for fifth place in the CCAA while averaging 67.5 points per game.  They are giving up 70.5 points per game while being out-rebounded 33 to 29.  The Gators defeated Cal State San Bernardino 68-53 on December 6 in San Francisco behind Osakue's game high 24 points while Brown chipped in 16.  Gilbert Parga led the Coyotes with 17 points.  Jacob Thomas leads the Coyotes lead the way with his 18.8 scoring average while Isaiah Morton is right behind im at 11.7 points per game.  Morton has a team high 45 assists.    

Humboldt State is 12-6 overall and 6-6 in the CCAA and the Lumberjacks are also tied for fifth place in the conference.  The Lumberjacks are averaging 84.2 points per game while giving up 74.4 points per game.  Austin Bryan leads the way with his 14.9 scoring average followed by Allan Guei at 13.9, Malik Morgan at 11.3 and David Howard at 10.5.  Morgan also leads the 'Jacks with his 88 assists.  The Gators defeated Humboldt State 67-58 on December 5 in San Francisco behind Nick Calcaterra's season high 15 points.  Kahlon added 13 points and Floyd Wormley chipped in 11 points.

After this weekend, the Gators will continue their four-game road trip with a pair of games against Bay Area foes Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay.  SF State defeated Cal State Monterey Bay on January 3 in San Francisco behind Brown's game high 21 points.  The Gators also defeated Cal State East Bay on January 2 at home, 70-57, behind Osakue's game high 19 points. 

SF State will not return home until Friday, February 13, when the Gators host UC San Diego in "Gold Rush".  This game will be broadcast live on Comcast Hometown Network (Channel 104 in the Bay Area).  The first 500 SF State students will receive t-shirts and pizza.  The Gator women will host UC San Diego prior to the men's contest.
