@SFState Splits Road And Home Contests In Final Week

SAN FRANCISCO – With their post season ticket already punched, the SF State women's volleyball team plays out its regular season schedule this week.  The Gators will begin the week with a road contest against Chico State on Tuesday at Art Acker Gymnasium, before returning home for their regular season finale against Cal State San Marcos on Friday, both matches will feature live stats and are slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.

The Gators (12-13/10-8) went 1-1 last week, falling to Cal Poly Pomona in four before wrapping up the week sweeping Cal State Monterey Bay in straight-sets.  With the win over the Otters, the Gators who are currently sixth in the CCAA, secured their birth in the first ever CCAA Tournament in two weeks in La Jolla.

If the Gators can win out this week, it will mark the first time since SF State joined the CCAA that they will have posted back-to-back winning seasons in conference play.

As a team, SF State is averaging 12.5 kills per set and hitting .169.  Their opponents are averaging 12.5 kills per set and hitting .169.  Over their last 10 matches, the Gators are an even 5-5 but have won two of their last three.  On the road the Gators are 6-5 this season.

Friday's contest against Cal State San Marcos will be senior night, making their final home appearance in the purple and gold will be outstanding seniors Jaclyn Clark, Ariana Cruz and Jessica Nicerio

Against the Otters on Saturday, Clark had a career-night, tallying a career-best 27 kills while hitting .339.  The 27 kills is tied for third-most in a single match in SF State history.  She also tallied 15 digs for her team-leading 13th double-double of the year.  All-time Clark ranks in the top-10 in several categories.  She is fourth all-time in kills (1,060), service aces (114), and digs (1,168), and second in attack attempts with 3,584.

Arianna Cruz, the current Gator of the Week, had an outstanding week last week for SF State.  She played tremendous back-row defense, recording 23 digs, averaging better than 2.50 digs per set.  More importantly, Cruz was lethal with the serve, tallying six service aces on the week, including a career-best five aces against CPP.

Jessica Nicerio is one of the best liberos in the country.  The SF State career leader in digs with 1,810 is currently 15th in the nation for active leaders in digs, and is a big reason why SF State is 37th in the nation in digs per set as a team.

Chico State enters Friday's contest with an overall record of 16-11 and are 8-9 in the CCAA.  The Wildcats are currently eighth in the CCAA and one game up on Humboldt State for the final playoff spot.  At Art Acker Gymnasium, Chico State is just 4-5.  Over their last 10 games the Wildcats have lost seven of 10, including five in a row.

As a team, they are averaging 13.0 kills per set which is sixth in the conference, while hitting .198 which is also sixth in the CCAA.  Their opponents are averaging 11.9 kill per set and hitting .194.  Leading the team in kills is outside hitter Olivia Mediano, who is third in third overall in the CCAA with 349 kills.

On Friday the Gators will wrap up the regular season hosting conference newcomer Cal State San Marcos.  The Cougars are currently 6-21 overall and 3-15 in the CCAA.  As a team, they are averaging 12.1 kills per set and are hitting .168.  Their opponents are averaging 13.8 kills per set and hitting .236.

The Cougars have an incredibly balanced attack.  They don't have any players in the top-10 in total kills, but do have three players averaging better than 2.30 kills per set.  Leading the team is Jordan Banich who has 231 kills on the year.  The last time these two teams squared off was on Sep. 25 when the Gators defeated the Cougars in five.
