Box Score SAN FRANCISCO–The visiting Stanislaus State Warriors (3-3, 2-0 CCAA) shot 45% from the field including 52% from three-point land to key their 68-52 victory over the SF State Gators at The Swamp at The Don Nasser Family Plaza.
Floyd Wormley paced the Gators with 10 points in both team's CCAA second game of the season.
The Warriors held the Gators without a bucket for the first six minutes of the game as they took a 5-2 lead. Alek Carlson' three gave the visitors a 27-13 lead with a little over two minutes to go in the first half. Three free throws by
Coley Apsay cut the deficit to 30-18 with just 40 seconds to go in the half, but the Warriors' Christian Bayne hit a lay-up to give the Warriors a 32-18 lead into the locker room.
An
Andre Jones lay-up capped an 8-2 run by the Gators to cut the Stanislaus State lead to 34-26 in the first five minutes of the second half. Stanislaus State built its lead to 15 (43-28) as Richard Medina's three capped a 9-2 run by the visitors. SF State would not go away as the Gators cut the deficit to under ten (53-44) on two free throws by
Treaven Duffy with 7:20 to go in regulation.
The Warriors pulled away in the next six minutes as they increased their lead to their largest of the game (68-47) with one minute left on the clock on a three by Medina. Two made free throws by Evans made the final 68-62. Carlson paced the Warriors with a game high 19 points while Christian Bayne chipped in 16 points for the visitors.
SF State's bench did outscore the Warriors' bench 36-16 led by Apsay with 9 and
Damien Rance and Duffy eaqch with 8 points.
The Gators (5-2, 0-2 CCAA) will look to get back on the winning track a week from tonight as they travel to Arcata, Calif., for a CCAA game with Humboldt State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm PST at Lumberjack Arena in Arcata. SF State will return home on Friday, December 18 at 5pm when the Gators host Northwest Nazarene in their final non-conference game of the season.
