@SFState_SOFT Continues Home Stand Taking On Coyotes

SAN FRANCISCO -- The SF State softball team continues its season long 12-game home stand on Friday, when the Gators host Cal State San Bernardino for a four-game CCAA clash.  Game one of Friday's doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m. with the second half of the twin billing starting at 3:00 p.m.  Live stats will be available for all four contests.

SF State enters this weekend's series with a 5-17 overall record which includes a 2-14 mark in the CCAA.  They enter this weekend riding a two-game winning streak after taking both games against Holy Names on Friday.  The Gators received a tremendous pitching performance from Megan Clark in game one and the offense blasted the Hawks in game two of that short two-game series.

Offensively, the Gators continue to swing a hot bat.  Last weekend, the Gators raised their team batting average 10 points for the second consecutive week.  Since February 27 the Gators are hitting .296 as a team with 26 of the teams 35 extra base hits.

On the year, the Gators are hitting .253 with 139 hits, 28 doubles, three triples and four home runs.  Leading the team is freshman Sara Higa who is hitting .353 with 12 hits in 34 at bats, she's clubbed three doubles with three runs driven in.  Sophomore outfielder Aryn Guzman was named the Female Gator of the Week for her hot bat.  Last Friday she hit .800 going 4-for-5 with a double and a home run against the Hawks.

In the circle the Gators boast a staff ERA of 4.76, which ranks ninth in the CCAA.  In 139.2 innings pitched SF State has surrendered 195 hits, 114 runs, with 50 strike outs to 72 walks.  Clark leads the team with a 3.22 ERA.  She earned her first win of the season last Friday when she took a no-hit bid into the top of the sixth inning against the Hawks.  She finished the game throwing a 2-hit complete game shutout.

Cal State San Bernardino enters this weekend's series with a 14-14 overall record and a 6-9 mark in conference play.  They have won four of their last five games after taking the series against Chico State at home last weekend.  The Coyotes were unable to complete the sweep over the Wildcats losing 8-0 in the finale but outscored Chico State 16-10.

As a team, the Coyotes are hitting .263 and they average 4.1 runs per game.  Leading the team is senior infielder Nicole Nobbe.  Nobbe is hitting .563 going 45-for-80 with 13 doubles and four home runs.  In the circle CSUSB sports a staff ERA of 4.43, in 180.0 innings pitched they have allowed 237 hits, 130 runs, with 69 walks and 126 strike outs.  Sophomore pitcher Cassandra Williams leads the team with 10 wins and a 3.42 ERA.

Friday's double header starts at 1:00 p.m. with the nightcap slated for a 3:00 p.m. start.  On Saturday the series resumes with an 11:00 a.m. start for game one, the second game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.  For in game updates and updates on all 12 of SF State's athletic teams be sure to follow the Gators on twitter @SFStateGators.
