SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State softball team will make its way back to Turlock for the second-straight weekend, this time the Gators will lock horns with conference rival Cal State Stanislaus in a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association Conference duel. The four game series will start with a double header on Friday starting at 1:00 p.m. at Warrior Softball Field.
The Gators enter this weekend with an 8-26 record including a 3-17 mark in the CCAA. Last weekend, the Gators went 2-8, splitting a mid-week series against visiting Western Oregon before going 1-6 at the Tournament of Champions hosted by CSUS. In the tournament finale the Gators fell 7-2, to the host Warriors.
Offensively, the Gators bats came through in a big way over the weekend. The team hit .283 as a squad and raised their overall batting average to a season-high of .264. In seven games, the Gators clubbed 47 hits, including six doubles and a home run. SF State has scored 91 runs on the year, averaging 2.67 runs per game.
Four players hit .333 or better last weekend, leading the charge for the Gators at the dish was
Jennifer Lewis and
Chelsea Brent. Lewis hit. 408 for the weekend going 9-for-22 with two runs scored, a double and a home run. She raised her batting average 30 points and is now hitting a season-high .312 which is second on the team, she is also currently riding a team-high 10-game hitting streak.
Both Lewis and Brent are tied for tops on the team with seven multiple-hit games. Brent hit .381 on the weekend, going 8-for-21 with four runs scored, two doubles and two RBIs. The impressive stretch saw her average raise 20 points to .311 which is third on the team.
In the circle the Gators are led by
Megan Clark who sports a 3-11 record and a 3.22 ERA. In Turlock, utility player
Aryn Guzman shined on the rubber. Over the weekend she threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball, while striking out seven. She lowered her ERA to 3.78 on the year and leads the team with 30 strike outs in 37.0 innings pitched.
The Warriors enter this weekend with an overall record of 11-23 and are 3-17 in the CCAA. They have lost 12 of their last 14 games. As a team, they are hitting .290 and averaging 4.08 runs per contest. Leading the team with a .417 average is sophomore outfielder Nicolette Vizcaino. She has a team-high 45 hits, with two doubles and a triple. Leading the team with 22 RBI is Holly Moording who is hitting .337. In the circle the Warriors are led by Jessica Varady who is 7-7 with a 3.82 ERA. CSUS sports a staff ERA of 4.38 in 220.2 innings pitched they have allowed 171 hits, and 145 walks, while striking out 161.
