SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State softball team embarks on a busy road trip starting on Tuesday when the Gators begin a four-game series against Cal State East Bay. SF State and Cal State East Bay were supposed to play a double header on Monday but that was moved to Wednesday to the threat of rain in the forecast. The Gators will then travel to San Marcos for a four-game series starting Friday and concluding Saturday.
SF State enters this week with an overall record of 11-12 and are 8-8 in the CCAA. Last weekend the Gators went 2-2 against visiting Stanislaus State, getting tremendous pitching performances from
Jenny Obbema and
Megan Clark in the wins.
Against the Warriors, the Gators stout pitching staff boasted a .225 ERA, in 28.0 innings they surrendered just 27 hits, with nine earned runs. Clark went 1-0 on the weekend, in her two appearances she threw 8.0 innings, scattering seven hits, one earned run with three strike outs. Obbema got the other win for the Gators throwing seven strong innings.
For the season, the Gators sport a staff ERA 2.86 which ranks 90
th in the country, out of 300 teams ranked. The Gators are also holding opponents to a .252 batting average which is fifth in the CCAA.
At the plate the Gators got a stellar weekend out of
Madison Collins and
Alexis Mattos. The Gators table setters at the top of the order combined to go 9-for-21 with three doubles, five RBI and two runs scored. Senior outfield
Chelsea Brent also had a solid weekend at the plate, going 4-for-10.
As a team, SF State is hitting .250 which ranks 10
th in the CCAA, they are averaging 3.78 runs per game. Leading the team with a .313 average is Collins.
Sara Higa is tops on the team with 22 hits, while
Angelica Terrel is the Gators leader with six extra base hits.
Cal State East Bay enters this week with a 9-11 overall record which includes a 6-8 mark in the CCAA. Last weekend, the Pioneers took three of four from visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills, winning both of Saturday's game by a final of 3-0 and 2-0.
As a team, CSUEB is hitting .272 which is seventh in the conference, they are averaging 4.35 runs per game. Leading the team in hitting is senior utility player Rose Marston who is batting .429, she is tied for the team lead with three home runs which is ninth in the conference.
In the circle the Pioneers boast a staff ERA of 3.24 which is sixth in the CCAA, their opponents are hitting .279 which is seventh in the conference. Leading the team in wins is Sierra Clark, she sports an ERA 2.55 ERA, in 57.2 innings pitched opponents are batting just .236 against her.
After battling the Pioneers on Tuesday and Wednesday the Gators will travel south to take on Cal State San Marcos for a four game series starting Friday. The Cougars are 7-23 overall with a 5-17 mark in the CCAA, this is their first year as members of Division II, they were previously member of the NAIA division.
As a team, the Cougars are hitting .229 which is 11
th in the CCAA, they are averaging 2.3 runs per game. Leading the team at the plate is senior utility player Robyn Alvara who is hitting .345, of her 20 hits, seven are doubles and she has one home run.
In the circle the Cougars boast a staff ERA of 4.26 which is 10
th in the CCAA, their opponents are batting .311 which is also 10
th. Leading the team with four wins and a 4.15 ERA is Amanda Horbasch, in 106 innings opponents are hitting .320 against her.
