SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State softball team returns from its weather induced hiatus this weekend, traveling to Carson, Calif. to take on host Cal State Dominguez Hills for a four-game series at Toro Diamond. Friday's double header begins at noon and Saturday's twin billing begins at 11 a.m. live stats will be available for all four games.
SF State enters this weekend currently seventh in the CCAA with a 3-5 record, overall they are 6-7 after splitting with Cal State Monterey Bay two weeks ago. Last weekend, the Gators four-game series against rival Sonoma State was postponed due to heavy rains in the Bay Area.
As a team, the Gators are hitting .262 which is 10th in the conference, they are averaging 4.38 runs per game. In the circle the Gators have been stellar. The SF State pitching staff boasts a team ERA of 2.97 which is fifth in the conference. Their opponents are hitting just .233 which is third best in the CCAA. SF State boasts two starters with ERA's south of 3.00. Leading the team with four wins and a 2.29 ERA is junior lefty Megan Clark. Senior Jenny Obbema is second on the team with a 2.60 ERA.
Offensively, the Gators found their power stroke against the Otters in Seaside. SF State entered that series with just eight extra base hits and left Otters Sports Complex with 14 extra base hits, including 10 doubles, a triple and three home runs, the biggest of all a grand slam by Kassie Trezona in her first career home run for the purple and gold.
Leading the team at the plate is sophomore third baseman Sara Higa. Higa is currently 12th in the CCAA with a .385 average, she is tops on the team with hits (15) and runs scored (8). Sophomore Angelica Terrel is second on the team with a .350 batting average, she is tops on the team with four extra base hits and tied for the team lead with seven RBI.
Cal State Dominguez Hills enters this week with a 7-16 overall record and are 4-12 in the CCAA which has them sitting in 10th in the conference. They are currently mired in a five game losing streak and have lost nine of their last 10 games. At home, the Toros are just 1-7.
As a team, CSUDH is hitting .266 which is ninth in the conference and averaging 4.17 runs per game. In the circle they sport a staff ERA of 4.26 which is ninth, while their opponents are hitting .329 off of them, which is 11th in the conference.
Leading the team with 25 hits and a .362 average is junior first baseman Analisa Nicholson. Leading the team with six home runs is freshman utility player Damari Simon. In the circle senior left hand pitcher Jamie Duran leads the team with four wins and a 3.40 ERA.
