SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State softball team is wrapping up its successful softball season this weekend and looks to do it in exciting fashion, taking on No. 14 Chico State in a four game CCAA series starting Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the University Softball Field. Saturday's twin billing is slated for an 11:00 a.m. start time. Live stats and video will be provided for all four games and can be accessed on the softball schedule page.
SF State enters Friday's contest with an overall record of 24-25 and are 18-18 in the CCAA. They are currently sitting in sixth place in the standings after losing eight in a row. Last weekend the Gators went 0-4 against No. 3 Humboldt State. The Gators began this week splitting with rival Sonoma State taking the nightcap 3-1 on the strength of a beautiful pitching performance from
Megan Clark.
The Gators current record of 24 wins is the most SF State has had since the Gators won 31 in 2009, their 18 conference wins has them within reach of their first 20 win season in the CCAA since the Gators went 20-8 in 2006.
SF State is hitting .266 as a team which is eighth in the conference, they are averaging 3.61 runs per contest. Junior third baseman
Gabby Reta continues to swing a hot bat for the Gators. In the win over the Seawolves on Monday she had what proved to be the game winning hit, a two-out single down the right field line that plated a pair of runs. For the year she's hitting .337 to lead the team.
Senior shortstop
Jennifer Lewis continues to climb the Gators' record book, with 180 career base hits. She currently sits eight all-time, and is two shy of moving into seventh. She also has 33 career doubles which is fifth all-time.
Pitching and defense has been the strength of the team for the Gators this season. In the circle, SF State boasts a staff ERA of 2.82 which is fourth in the conference, they are holding opponents to a .254 batting average which is fifth in the CCAA. Junior
Megan Clark is eight in the CCAA with an ERA of 2.13, her 12 wins is ninth most in the conference.
Defensively, the Gators lead the conference with 28 double players turned, their fielding percentage of .957 is fifth in the CCAA. Senior first baseman
Marisa Andrade is currently second all-time with over 800 career putouts.
The Wildcats enter this weekend's series ranked No. 14 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches' Association poll. They are currently 33-11 overall and 24-10 in the CCAA which is good enough for second in the conference standings. At home they are 12-6 this season.
As a team, they are hitting .299 and averaging 6.29 runs per contest. Leading the team at the plate is Desiree' Gonzalez who is hitting .383, her 51 hits is tied for the team lead. In the circle the Wildcats boast a staff ERA of 1.89 and holding their opponents to a .193 batting average. Leading the team in wins and ERA is Brooke Langeloh who is 17-2 this year with a 1.74 ERA.
