CARSON, Calif. — The San Francisco State women's volleyball team dropped its third consecutive 3-1 decision with a 26-24, 19-25, 16-25, 25-27 loss at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday.
The Gators (7-15/3-11 CCAA) fell behind 8-3 in set one and trailed 21-14. An
Olivia Tabron kill began seven-point run that evened the score. The Toros (12-10/8-5 CCAA) regained the lead, 24-22, but three Toros errors and a
Christine Johnson gave the Gators the early lead.
SF State opened the second set with the first two points but the momentum swung to the Toros, who used a six-point run to take the lead. SF State used a seven-point run of its own that shifted the momentum yet again and made it a 15-14 Gators lead. However, the Toros took the next four points and it was enough to hold on and even the match.
Set three saw an early 7-6 Gators lead but the Toros responded with the next three points. CSUDH led the rest of the set and pulled away easily thanks to a six-point run out of an SF State timeout.
The two teams battled point-for-point in the fourth set. The Toros took a 24-22 to force match point but SF State rallied thanks to a pair of Toros errors and a
Drew Morris kill. That set up set point for the Gators but three consecutive Toros kills, two from Tati Yandall, ended the match.
Yandall led all players with 19 kills on .405 hitting and 19 digs to finish with a double-double. Claire Autry added 13 kills. Cathryn Lopez led all players with 25 digs for the Toros.
Bailey Johnson led the Gators with 12 kills and a season-high eight block assists. Morris and Tabron each had seven kills in the loss. Freshman libero
Jocelyn Rodriguez recorded a team-high 24 digs. Setter
Cassandra Fong dished out 30 assists and tallied 16 digs.
SF State will now head home for a three-match series beginning Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. versus Cal State East Bay. The Gators will host Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. on Senior Night. The Gators' match versus Humboldt State, which was postponed due to the North Bay fires, will be played on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at
