MBB | Gators fall in exhibition at Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's basketball team fell 90-65 to Long Beach State in exhibition play on Tuesday Night at the Walter Pyramid.

The game was an exhibition for SF State, though it counted as a game for Long Beach State, who improved to 2-0 on the season.

SF State senior Warren Jackson scored 12 of his 16 points in the first half but the Gators  still trailed by 10 at the half, 43-33. The Preseason All-American also reeled in a team-high five rebounds.

The Beach put the game out of reach with a 9-0 run that made it a 20-point ballgame with 16 minutes to go in the game. The Gators got no closer than 16 points the rest of the way.

Evan Zeller, coming off of a week in which he was named MVP of the The PacWest/CCAA Challenge and Gator of the Week, added 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Brantley Bynum also reached double digits and finished with 10 points. Ryne Williams added nine points and Jase Wickliffe, who saw his most action as a Gator, scored seven points and dished out a team-high five rebounds in 28 minutes. Kenny Macklin earned the start and scored six points and shared the rebounding lead with Jackson. Center Tyler Jackson made his first appearance as a Gator. The 7-foot-2 transfer scored four points and grabbed four rebounds but fouled out and was limited to nine minutes of action.

LBSU's leading scorer, Bryan Alberts, led all players with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting from three-point land. Barry Ogalue added 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Edon Maxhuni and Jordan Griffin both added 12 points apiece.

The Gators (2-0), tied for eighth in this week's D2SIDA Men's Basketball West Region Poll, will head to Idaho for two non-conference contests. The Gators take on Concordia (Ore.) on Friday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m., then take on Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. Live stats and video for both games will be provided by NNU.
