SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State men's wrestling team earned its first victory of the season with a dominant 32-13 win over visiting Southern Oregon on Saturday.
"It's good to have our first win under our belt. We've been building a lot lately and it's great to see the guys performing," said Head Coach
Jason Welch, who earned his first career win with Saturday's victory. "Every week, we're getting better and better and better. It's nice to have some bonus points on the board, guys are able to look for pins, tech falls, and any type of advantage that they can provide the team."
Romeo Medina-Ontiveros gave SF State (1-2) an early 4-3 match lead with his major decision at 165 lb. and
Justin Pichedwatana followed with a technical fall that extended the lead to 9-3. Southern Oregon (1-2) scored the next points with a major decision at 184 lb. and a pin at 197 lb. Heavyweight
Sam Alnassiri's pin gave the Gators the lead for good, 15-13.
Brandon Vu made his 2017-18 debut at 125 lb. and recorded a technical fall.
Nathan Cervantez, the No. 11-ranked wrestler at 133 lb. in NCAA Division II, and
Joshua Villaflor both earned decisions, and
