CHICO, California - Brylynn Vallejos of the San Francisco State softball team has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week, the conference announced this morning.
Vallejos was on fire this past weekend, hitting .615 (8-13) with seven runs scored and three batted in while slugging .846 as the Gators took three-of-four against Cal State Dominguez Hills. In the finale, the freshman hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season that broke the 1-1 tie as SF State went on to run rule the Toros in five. Defensively, the Reno, Nevada product made play after play in the outfield, including a diving catch in game two on Saturday and threw out a runner at the plate in the series finale to end the inning.Â
The utility player is second in the conference and 45th in the nation with a .459 batting average. Her .514 on-base percentage is fourth in the CCAA while her 33 runs scored, 45 hits and 20 stolen bases rank her first. She becomes the second CCAA Player of the Week honoree in just as many seasons after Katie Rohrer earned the award last year.
The Gators host Notre Dame de Namur today in a doubleheader starting at noon. Live stats will be provided.
