SB | Gators Open Up CCAA Tournament This Thursday

SAN FRANCISCO - After more than a decade, the San Francisco State softball team is once again postseason bound as they open up the CCAA Tournament. The third-seeded Gators will take on Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday at noon, and the contest will be live streamed courtesy of BAOSN.

It will be the first postseason appearance for the Purple and Gold since 2007 when they reached the inagural CCAA Tournament. This time out the Gators have built some serious momentum heading into this weekend after winning 16 of their last 17 contests including eight straight to end the regular season. The Gators won 34 games this season, which is the fourth-most victories in a season in program history, and the 26 conference wins are the most in a season in SF State history.

The Gators, who are currently receiving votes in the NFCA coaches poll and ranked No. 4 in the NCAA West Region, and Coyotes split their four-game series earlier this season when San Bernardino was ranked No. 20 in the nation. SF State outlasted the Coyotes 3-1 in an eight-inning affair in the opener before taking game two, 7-3 to give San Bernardino its first losses of the season. Emily Mitchell and Karla Soto each tossed complete games, and Nina Revoir's two-run double guided the Gators to the extra inning win in game one. In game two, Andrea Hildan went 3-for-3 and Sydney Jenkins added a pair of hits including her first collegiate home run.

Offensively the Gators have taken the conference by storm this season, leading the CCAA with a .328 batting average as well as 490 hits, which is the second-most hits in program history. The Purple and Gold have already broken the program record for runs (381) and doubles (82), and are tied for the steals record with 125.

Last weekend Brylynn Vallejos broke the program record for hits in a season with 84 and currently has 90 on the year, which is tied for the eighth-most in CCAA history and the second-most in the nation this season. The 2019 Schutt Sports/ NFCA Division II Player of the Year Top 25 honoree is two runs away from tying the program record for runs in a season of 53, which was set in 1991 by Lily Tong.

A victory against the Coyotes will advance SF State to the next round where they will square off against No. 23 Chico State on Thursday at 5 p.m.  A full tournament schedule can be found below.

Tickets to the CCAA Tournament will be available at the field's main entrance on game days with general admission seating available for $10. Students with a valid ID, seniors and children 12 and under will be admitted for $5.
