SB | Vallejos, Castro, Revoir Named All-CCAA

SAN RAMON, California - Brylynn Vallejos of the San Francisco State softball team was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Freshman of the Year and to the All-CCAA First Team, the conference announced today. Additionally Michelle Castro and Nina Revoir were named to the All-CCAA Second Team.

"It's an honor for our players to be represented in the end-of-the-year CCAA awards," said Head Coach Alicia Reid. "Michelle, Nina and Brylynn have put up offensive numbers that categorize them as some of the most feared hitters in our conference. Not only has their offensive play helped make our mark as one of the top offenses in conference, but Brylynn and Michelle's stellar defensive play making abilities have come up clutch in pressure situations."

Vallejos established herself as one of the top players in the country this season, ranking second in the nation in hits with 90 and 17th with a .462 batting average, both of which are the best in the CCAA. The outfielder is climbing the CCAA top ten for hits in a season, and currently sits tied for eighth all time. On April 24 Vallejos was named to the Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Player of the Year Top 25, and was one of just two freshmen across the country to be recognized. The Reno, Nevada product becomes the second Freshman of the Year winner in program history, joining Jordanna Freemer who earned the award in 2005.

This is Castro's second consecutive All-CCAA award after she was named to the First Team last season in addition to being named the Newcomer of the Year. The junior is 14th in the conference with a .344 batting average and is second in hits with 62, both of which are career bests. After setting the program record for doubles in a season last year with 17, Castro currently sits sixth all-time for career doubles with 33 and is on pace to break the record yet again. The Acampo, California product is also second all-time for career steals with 69.

After hitting .346 with 13 doubles and 34 RBI, Revoir is one of two freshmen to be honored on the All-CCAA Second Team. The Elk Grove, California native ranks in the top ten in the Conference in hits, RBI, doubles and walks, and her 27 walks are tied for the seventh-most by a Gator in a season. Revoir began the her collegiate career reaching in 14-straight contests and followed with a 14-game hit streak, which is the longest by a Gator in the last two seasons.

"For Nina and Brylynn to come in as freshmen in a very strong conference and be in the top-ten in offensive categories such as hits, doubles and RBI is a testament to their work ethic and ability to make adjustments at the plate," continued Reid. "Michelle continues to have a stellar career here and place herself among the best SF State softball has ever had."

The Gators open up the postseason against Cal State San Bernardino this Thursday at noon. Live stats and a stream will be provided.
