SB | Vallejos a Finalist for National Freshman of the Year

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - After being named a finalist for National Player of the Year, San Francisco State softball standout Brylynn Vallejos has been named a finalist for the 2019 Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Freshman of the Year, the organization announced this morning. 

The Reno, Nevada native set the program record for hits with 95 and in batting average with an exemplary .442. The CCAA Freshman of the Year led the conference in most offensive categories as well as stolen bases with 32, and runs with 55 which is also another program record. The outfielder also boasts a .970 fielding mark and contributed ten assists and 87 putouts. She helped lead the Gators to their first CCAA Tournament appeareance since 2007 as well as their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2006.

Earlier this week, Vallejos earned NFCA and D2CCA All-West Region First Team recognition and was named to the All-CCAA First Team.

Vallejos is one of eight freshmen from across the country to be honored, and the winner will be announced next Wednesday.
