WT&F | Eight Gators Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Recognition

NEW ORLEANS - A total of eight student-athletes on the No. 6 San Francisco State women's track & field team have ben named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2019 NCAA Division II All-Region team.

The 4x100 and 4x400 are the top-ranked squads in the West, and are represented by Maya Cook, Kennedy Hardemion, Alexis Henry and Jazmine Smith. The group ran the second-fastest time in the nation en route to a first-place finish at the CCAA Championships with a time of 45.29. The quartet recorded the third-fastest mark in the country in the 4x400 with a 3:37.65, which is another automatic qualifier. 

Henry and Smith also earn the honor in the 200m and 400m. Henry ran a personal-best 23.66 in the 200m to grab gold at the CCAA Championships and followed with another first-place finish in the 400m with a program-record time of 53.83. Smith podiumed in both events at the CCAA Championships, running a 24.10 in the 200m and a 54.17 in the 400m, which is the tenth-fastest time in the country.

Devanique Brown made it back-to-back All-CCAA titles in the heptathlon and earns All-Region recognition in the event for the second-straight year. The senior became the first All-American in the event in program history at last season's NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Senior Monisha Lewis earns consecutive All-Region nods in the 100m hurdles and adds the 400m hurdles to her trophy case. Lewis took first in the 100m hurdles at the CCAA Championships with a time of 13.42, which is an automatic qualifier and the fourth-fastest time in the country. She placed second in the 400m hurdles with a 59.69, which ties the program record and is a provisional mark.

Destiny Mack-Talalemotu earns the honor in shot put, discus and hammer for back-to-back seasons. The senior won gold in hammer (56.10m) and shot put (15.30m) at the CCAA Championships en route to being the High Point Award winner as she tallied 31 points.

Last season Courtney Massengale took home All-Region recognition in discus and this year she adds shot put. Massengale tossed the third-best distance in the country at the CCAA Championships in discus with a personal-best 53.89m for the automatic qualifier. In shot put, the senior placed third with a throw of 14.10m

SF State earned 20 total honors across 14 different events, making it three-straight years of talling 15 or more honors. The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of the region's top-3 relay teams.

The Gators look to wrap up the 2019 slate with a big showing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, which kick off on May 23 in Kingsville, Texas.
