San Francisco, Calif.---- With their 2-1 win over the visiting CSU San Marcos Cougars (5-6-1), SF State' s men's soccer team improved to 7-6-1 and also extended its home winning streak to four. The Gators are now 4-2-1 at home.
”It was a good win for us this afternoon,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter. “I am very pleased with the outcome, but we need to come out on Sunday and play more intelligent and sharper throughout the whole game,” added Hunter.
Killian Leduke (Sherman Oaks, California, Saint Genevieve) scored his first collegiate goal off a corner kick from
Mario Hernandez (Whittier, California, California)in the third minute to give the Gators a 1-0 lead. CSU San Marcos came right back and tied the game five minutes later as Chris Wyatt connected on a shot from 25-yards out. The match remained tied until 20 minutes left in regulation when
Spencer Schwandt (Napa, California, Viintage) connected on a penalty kick to give the Gators the 2-1 victory.
Thomas Comer (Danville, California, San Ramon Valley) started in goal for the Gators and had one save in the first half while
Israel Cisneros (Watsonville, California, Hartnell College)was in goal in the second half for SF State. The Gators outshot CSU San Marcos 17-11 including 8-5 in the second half. Tashi Nakanishi had four saves in goal for the Cougars.
The Gators will return to conference action this Sunday, October 12 at 11:30pm, when they host the fourth ranked Cal State LA Golden Eagles at Cox Stadium.
