Turlock, Calif.--- Andrew Ruiz scored both of the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors' (3-9-1, 2-8 CCAA) goals to key their 2-1 win over the visiting SF State Gators. With the loss, SF State falls to 7-7-2 overall and 4-6-1 in the CCAA.
“You cannot underestimate your opponent and as a team you need to come ready perform for every game,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter. “We had too many mental errors this afternoon and you have to give the Warriors credit as they capitalized on our errors.”
The game was scoreless in the first 23 minutes of the match when
Jake Beverlin (Sacramento, California, Consumnes River College) scored his first goal of the season on a header off a missed shot by
Dylan Glass (Rancho Cucamonga, California, Alta Loma). Ten minutes later, Ruiz tied the game at 1-1 for the Warriors on a header off a free kick by Matthew Johnson. The score remained 1-1 until six minutes left in the game, when Ruiz connected on his second goal of the game and sixth of the season off a deflection and cross from Johnson and Bladimar Murrillo.
Thomas Comer (Danville, California, San Ramon Valley), making his second start of the season in goal for SF State, had two saves while Javier Rosales had 7 in goal for Cal State Stanislaus. The Gators will continue their road trip this Sunday at 2pm for a CCAA match with the CCAA North Division leader, Chico State Wildcats. SF State defeated the Wildcats 2-1 in overtime earlier in the season.
