Belmont, Calif.--- SF State's men's soccer team ended its 2008 season with a 2-0 loss to the Notre Dame de Namur University Argonauts (11-3-2) this afternoon in Belmont, California. The Gators finished the season with an 8-10-2 overall record.
The score was tied after the first 45 minute period as the Argonauts, who are ranked fourth in this week's NCAA Division II West Regional rankings out-shot SF State 7-4. Of those four shots by the Gators, one was a shot on a goal by
Dylan Glass (Rancho Cucamonga, California, Alta Loma). Notre Dame de Namur had two shots on goal.
Cristobal Montes put the Argonauts on the board nine minutes into the second half off a pass from Jacob Zavala. This was Montes' 10
th goal of the season. SF State had two chances to tie the game, but both
Glass' and
Robert Maeda (Beaverton, Oregon, Jesuit) shot were saved by the Argonauts' David Meherg. Montes sealed the win for Notre Dame de Namur in the 87
th minute off a ball from Zavala to give the hosts, a 2-0 win.
Notre Dame de Namur out-shot the Gators 17-8 for the game while Sheldon Steenhuis had one save in goal for the Argonauts in the first half and Meherg had two in the second half. Playing in his final game wearing the purple and gold,
Israel Cisneros (Watsonville, California, Hartnell College) had six saves in goal for SF State which all kept the Gators in the game. SF State did record more corner kicks than the Argonauts (4-3).
Of the Gators 8 shots, three came off the foot of
Glass and two from freshman
Antonio Ugarte (Danville, Calforna, San Ramon Valley ).
Jake Beverlin (Sacramento, California, Consumnes River College) also played in his final game in the Gator uniform this afternoon.
