Gators Make The Most Of Their Opportunities in 2-0 Win at CSUSB

Israel Cisneros Had 10 Saves En Route To His Second Shutout in the Gators' 2-0 Win at CSUSB

San Bernardino, Calif.---  The SF State Gators' men's soccer team made the most of their opportunities in their 2-0 blanking of the CSU San Bernardino Coyotes (4-6-1, 3-3-1 CCAA) this afternoon in San Bernardino, California.  The Coyotes outshot SF State 21-7, but the Gators outscored their host 2-0.

“Our three reserves (Jeffrey Wiant (Orange, California, Mater Dei), Bobby Maeda, and Silvestre Arias (Fresno, California, San Joaquin Memorial)) came off the bench today and played superb and were the difference in the match,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter.  “This was a great win for us and we are starting to see it as a team,” added Hunter.  “Our two goals were great as Sergio Villalva's was a bomb in the upper corner and the second goal came on a beautiful combination from Antonio Ugarte off a ball from Dylan Glass.”

Bobby Maeda

SF State just had two shots in the first half including its first goal at the 30:29 as Sergio Villalva (Chula Vista, California, Otay Ranch HS) connected on a shot from 18-yards out from a ball from Robert Maeda (Beaverton, Oregon, Jesuit).  This was Villalva's second goal of the season.  The score remained 1-0 Gators until 10 minutes left in the match, when the combination of Antonio Ugarte (Danville, Calforna, San Ramon Valley ) and Dylan Glass (Rancho Cucamonga, California, Alta Loma) combined for SF State's second goal which was the clincher.  It was Ugarte's team high fifth goal of the season.

The Gators were outshot 21-7 while Israel Cisneros (Watsonville, California, Hartnell College) had 10 saves en route to his second shutout of the season.  Tyler Kahn was in goal for CSUSB.  SF State (5-5-1, 3-4 CCAA) will look to extend its winning streak to three this Sunday, October 5th, in Pomona, California, as the Gators take on Cal Poly Pomona in another CCAA match at 2pm.
