Rode Scores Career High In Gators' Road Win at CSUMB

Rode Scored a Career High To Lead SF State
Seaside, Calif.--- SF State senior forward Brio Rode (Albquerque, NM/Seward CC) scored a career high 30 points in the Gators' 95-79 road win in Seaside, Calif., against the CSU Monterey Bay Otters (3-23, 2-17). With the win, the Gators move into fifth place in the CCAA and improve to 14-12 overall and 11-8 in the CCAA. The 11 wins is the most wins by a Gator women's basketball team in the CCAA.
“Tonight we played extremely well within our offense, which resulted in a season high for points,” said SF State Head Coach Joaquin Wallace. “Friday night we must continue to run our offense and commit to the defensive end against a well coached team in UC San Diego.”
The Gators jumped out to a 23-13 lead in the first six minutes of the game. CSU Monterey Bay went on an 11-2 run to cut into the Gator lead (25-24) with 10 minutes left in the first half. SF State ended the half outscoring the Otters 32-16 to take a 57-40 lead into the locker room.
SF State increased that lead to 77-42 in the first six and a half minutes of the second half as the Gators went on a 20-2 run. The Otters cut the Gator lead to 92-79 with a little under a minute left in the game, but the 35 point lead was too much to overcome as the Gators secured a 95-79 victory.
Alma Lopez led the way for the Otters with a game high 33 points while Dana Andrews chipped in 18 for CSU Monterey Bay.
Rode finished the night going 9 of 14 from the field including 6 of 9 from three-point land while going 6 of 8 from the charity stripe. She also had three assists, two steals, one blocked shot, and four rebounds. Jessica Hout-Freeman (So, G, Fremont, Calif/Washington HS) chipped in 15 points while Krystle Mays (Jr, G/F, Long Beach, Calif./Chatsworth HS) added 14 points.
SF State forced 25 turnovers by the Otters while recording 10 steals. The Gators return home for the final time of the regular season this Friday, February 29 for a 5:30pm scheduled tip-off with the visiting UC San Diego Tritons. The Tritons will travel to Seaside tomorrow evening for a CCAA game at CSU Monterey Bay.
