#25 Softball Swept by Otters

Monica Amburgey Was Lost to the Gators in Game One of This Afternoon's DH
Seaside, Calif.--- The 25th ranked SF State Gators were swept by the CSU Monterey Bay Otters (29-22, 16-14 CCAA) this afternoon at the Otter Softball Complex in Seaside, California. The Gators (26-20, 12-14 CCAA) lost 5-2 and 4-3 in ten innings and fell down to seventh place in the CCAA while the Otters are all alone in fourth place.
            The Otters, ranked fourth in the NCAA West Region, took a 3-0 lead after the first two innings as Shae Olds hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning.
SF State moved within one run of the Otters with a run in the fourth on a Kelly McDonald two-out RBI single and a run in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Kelsey Wood
            CSU Monterey Bay's Olds hit a two-out RBI single in the sixth gave the Otters a 5-2 lead going into the seventh. Angela Cabral (16-8) shut down the Gators, who are ranked sixth in this week's NCAA West Region Poll, in the seventh to preserve her complete game win. Olds finished the game with four of the Otters' five RBIs.
            Kendra Wood (10-5) took the loss for SF State while Karolyn Gubbine and Kelsey Wood had four of the Gators' six hits.
            In the night cap, SF State's Jordanna Freemer scored the games' first run on a two-out RBI single in the first inning by Kendra Wood. Another two out hit by the Otters, this time by Jill Artoff gave the Otters a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. 
            Lea Cardenas' two-out two-run double in the seventh gave SF State a 3-2 lead going into the Otter last at bat. CSU Monterey Bay tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh as Megan Luna scored the tying run when the Otters' Erin Tate was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. 
            The Otters won the game in the tenth on a two-out RBI single to left center by Rachelle Morales that scored Ashlee Trotter to give CSU Monterey Bay a 4-3 victory. 
Jessica Boyle (5-7) picked up the win, pitching 10 innings, giving up nine hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out 13 and walking five. Four Otters had two hits a piece to lead the CSU Monterey Bay offense.
            Ashley Jackson (13-8) took the loss for SF State, pitching 9.2 innings, giving up 11 hits and four runs while striking out eight. Gubbine and Kendra Wood each had two hits for SF State.
            The two teams will complete their four-game weekend series this afternoon at noon for another conference doubleheader.
