SEASIDE, Calif. - The San Francisco State women's volleyball team got back on the winning track Wednesday night with a four-set triumph over Cal State Monterey Bay (25-9, 25-14, 23-25, 25-16) in a California Collegiate Athletic Association battle at the Kelp Bed. The victory snaps a two-match losing streak for the Gators, who improve to 7-4 on the season and 1-2 in the CCAA. Meanwhile with the loss, the Otters slip to 3-8 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
"Tonight I thought we played three out of four games really well," said SF State head coach Michelle Patton. "We're playing better longer, which is great, but we've still have a new and young team and we're learning from every match that we play."
SF State was all business in the opening frame, hitting at a torrid .833 clip with 10 kills and no errors on 12 attempts. Freshman
Kyle Lamet (Benicia, Calif.) opened the scoring with four service aces as the Gators raced to a 5-0 lead and never looked back.
Individually, SF State was led by junior
Beth Perkins (Woodland, Calif.), who recorded 16 kills on 32 attempts overall with just one error for a .469 hitting percentage. Lamet also posted huge numbers with 15 kills and a .545 hitting percentage to along with six aces. Meanwhile, freshman
Mary Maiocco (Bakersfield, Calif.) contributed 41 assists on the evening.
The Gators return home to face 18th-ranked UC San Diego on Saturday, September 20, beginning at 7 p.m.
