Bridgeport, Conn.--- SF State Gators' men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2008 season this afternoon in Day Two of the University of Bridgeport Soccer Classic in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The host, Purple Knights of Bridgeport, defeated the Gators (2-1) 2-0 this afternoon.
In an evenly played match saw the Purple Knights having two of their 10 shots see the back of the goal while SF State saw none of its ten shots see the back of the goal. Milo Sulajic had two saves in goal for Bridgeport (3-1), whose only loss so far this season was a 2-1 loss at NSCAA Preseason No. 1 Franklin Pierce. Israel Cisneros (Watsonville, California, Hartnell College) had two saves in goal for the Gators, who return to the soccer pitch this Tuesday, September 9 for their home opener against Seattle Pacific at 1pm at Cox Stadium.
"It was a great game to watch and was evenly played with each team recording 10 shots," said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter. "Their first goal happened on a corner kick off a clearance that slipped in behind our defense," added Hunter. "We gave them a good run, Bridgeport just had more experience and a little more depth than us."
Habib Sylla connected off a corner kick from Nick Campbell for the Purple Knights' first goal at the 23:51 mark of the first half. Romaldi Thelusma connected on a ball from Campbell and Gilbert Bayonne to give Bridgeport a 2-0 lead 19 minutes into the second half. Ali Elkadi (Napa, California, Napa Junior College)had three of the Gators' 10 shots and Sylvestre Arias (Fresno, California, Fresno City College) recorded two shots for the Gators while Mario Hernandez (Whittier, California, Rio Hondo CC) and Antonio Ugarte (Danville, Calforna, San Ramon Valley )each had one shot a goal a piece for SF State.
